Looking for some massive Techno? Then look no further than this hot new release on Canadian imprint 4Play Trax. The sister label of Amplified Digital, 4Play has been making waves with new and up and coming Canadian producers with remixes from some of the world’s best young talent. This techno release isn’t exactly what you might typically hear on this label, but I welcome the change up with open arms.
Along with the Original Mix are techno remixes by Peppelino and a Re-work from Sadowick & SDK (Techno), while our very close friend Joran rounds things out with a banging house remix that is more techno than anything.
Another great package put together by 4Play Trax and definitely something different from their camp but still quality music for your for just about any setting, except maybe your wedding. Or is it? Read on past the break for high quality samples.
This Irish producer/dj burst onto the scene with his first release on the Discover White imprint, garnering airplay from some of the world’s top jocks. Since then he’s released productions on Vandit (PvD’s own), Connective Sounds and now, Ronald van Gelderen’s very own label, Raw Sessions Recordings.
This latest monster packs tons of energy in just under 8 minutes, and Adam’s techno influence shine through nearly instantly. The track is reminiscent of a banging Askew techno production, but the low end’s been amped up to 11 and the throaty bass and kick combo is nearly soul shaking. On the flipside we’ve got a remix by Ronald van Gelderen, mister label boss himself, who crushes the original into a sub 6 minute beast.

Tribal techno groovyness....a la Finlandia ” - Andre
10/10
This isn’t the first time we’ve covered a production by Finnish producer Chantola, with his many releases and remixes for Subtraxx or Green Martian, it’s no surprise he’s caught the ear of many in the biz, including the folks at Spinnin’ run Oxygen Recordings.
Chantola is also one half of Spiritus & Asper, a Finnish duo what has been very well received in the progressive trance scene. This latest effort from Henrik is deep and dark, features some spine tingling synth work and a lead that will have you hooked ’till the cows come home. I’m reminded of a more tribal sound that is often championed by Abel Ramos or Gordon Coutts, a rather interesting spin on what I normally hear coming from Finland.
Alongside Chantola are a few other Finnish producers and a dutch up and comer. Basil O’Glue, Arctic Degrees and StoryTeller provide their own takes on the original, all versions that differ greatly from the producer’s typical sound. I am very, very fond of this release because it showcases so much versatility and demonstrates that producers don’t need to pidgeon hole themselves by labeling their style. This is truly a unique release, with each version kicking ass and don’t be surprised when you get knocked back at a club when any of these come on.
The Steur Bros. are better known as Jonas and Simon Steur. For this release they teamed up and asked Jerique to look after the vocals to deliver this new single: “Save Me”. When this release landed on my desk, nary an hour ago, the remixer chosen for the 2 track release is such a favorite of mine that I quite literally stopped everything else just to give this some proper attention.
The enticing combination of staccato beats, a classic house piano and the mesmerizing chorus sung by Jerique delivers a superb club track that is tailor made for the weekends, when all of us go out to dance to good music on the funky tip. Ad Brown remixed the original and gave it a powerful four to the floor makeover -with a lovely focus on the vocals in the break- that will fit perfectly in every state of the art club set of today. For those DJs that like to work on a credible level when it comes to perfect Saturday night house tracks, this is one for the charts!

“
Old & New collide: What tech-trance should be! ” - Andre
10/10
Every once in a while a track comes along that is so hot, so uncontrollably infectious, so filthy and absolutely mind melting that I stop everything else I do, take the 6 minutes I need to enjoy it and just giv’r. This, my friends, is one of them. Randy was quite literally one my very first forays into what was then called, tech-trance. I make this distinction because today’s tech-trance is not usually tech-trance at all, but I digress…
Randy teams up with recent Spinnin’ powerhouse MEM (hot off an amazing release!) and together create a timeless piece of tech trance that is heavy, very heavy, on the tribal elements. I wonder if Abel Ramos is tucked away in here somewhere drumming away? This review includes merely the one track, though I’m sure there will be more to go along with it in the near future, but for now we’ll have to enjoy the 3 minute high quality sample I included after the jump! Go on, have a listen, once that bassline kicks in you won’t want to stop!
I won’t spend much time clamoring over this release, but I thought you should know about it, in case, you know, you are looking for some tribal tech trance that manages to stand out just enough for me to mention it. The Discover Dark team is coming off an absolute monster of a release with Sean Tyas’ amazing release Rulebook (which featured Bryan Kearney on remix duties), and that might have something to do with my slightly less-than-excited attitude for this new release from FFW.
If you aren’t familiar with the FFW moniker, you might indeed know her other producer/DJ name, Fei-Fei. This self proclaimed ’sheeJay’ is creating quite the storm in the trance and techno dj world, with appearances on Vandit, Armada, Flux Delux and now Discover Dark. This latest, Infinity Loop, is easy to get into, with a dark and brooding atmosphere that is punctured by whirring synths and rolling tribal drums that just seem to take over my body as I listen to it. On remix duties we have Gate 42, the Swedish Discover staple. His version adds a new dimension to the original, crafting a version that is even more tribal and primal than the original.

I’ve tried deciphering the meaning behind this rather unique release title, and other than a few random Filipino words, I’ve not come up with any concrete details. After much research i decided to actually read the press release and to my surprise I found the following tidbit: “Together with the title that translates as the Community of Love, and works as homage to the humanitarian organization in Congo that is focused on preserving Pygmies and their culture.”
London based DJ and vocalist, Jackie Misfit was inspired by music at an early age. Owning her first keyboard at six she soon realized her life’s passion and went on to graduate from the conservatorium of music as an accomplished vocalist and pianist. Her yearning to express her music in all it’s forms led her to a variety of bands and instruments until finally finding her place on the dance floor.
Today Jackie is at the forefront of the minimal movement in the UK and her latest, Kundi la Mapendo, is a slice of tribal tech house that would move even the staunchest of Republicans. Ok, who am I kidding, every one knows Republicans can’t dance.

Cosmic Gate return to the Black Hole imprint with a new single from their latest artist album, Sign of the Times. This latest effort packs a rather heavy punch with a grand total of 7 mixes (two of which are radio mixes), and luckily each mix manages to showcase a different style.
Along with the originals (extended and radio edits) are mixes from Kyau & Albert (extended and radio edits), a remix from unknown Row and two mixes from house mogul Wally Lopez. For those of you who have not come across Kyler’s voice in previous works, do not fear. Something tells me we’ll be hearing much more of her!

Wildlife typically releases house music, and with releases from Jaimy & Kenny D, DJ Debra and others, this latest addition of Jonas Steur to the roster is a rather peculiar one, considering the typical sound that Wildlife has released in the past.
Jonas had a stellar year in 2008, countless releases and remixes were released on such labels as Black Hole, 2Play, Songbird, Euphonic and countless others. Since exploding onto the scene in 2005 with his Estuera alias, his sound has slowly evolved into a more gritty and techno influenced audio collage. This latest track is no exception!

Electronic music tends to move at the speed of insanity, and even in this turmoil it is quite retrospective and full-circle…You see new remixes of old tracks cropping up all the time, but this is a different kind of retrospect. Simon Berry (Better known as Art of Trance) has come a long way from starting up the now-legendary Platipus label, starting out as a humble acid trance purveyor, and now ending up as the guy who has brought us all sorts of greatness, via his productions, collaborations, and well, his label, the label that unleashed Madagascar, Calling Your Name, Air, The Fade, and countless others upon the world.
Now Simon pauses for a moment to show us where he is coming from, re-mastering his two artist albums, and cooking up a DJ mix. Three discs of quirky samples, acid grooves, and plenty of epic to go along. Read on!
