Chantola – More Senses [Oxygen Recordings]

This isn’t the first time we’ve covered a production by Finnish producer Chantola, with his many releases and remixes for Subtraxx or Green Martian, it’s no surprise he’s caught the ear of many in the biz, including the folks at Spinnin’ run Oxygen Recordings.

Chantola is also one half of Spiritus & Asper, a Finnish duo what has been very well received in the progressive trance scene.  This latest effort from Henrik is deep and dark, features some spine tingling synth work and a lead that will have you hooked ’till the cows come home. I’m reminded of a more tribal sound that is often championed by Abel Ramos or Gordon Coutts, a rather interesting spin on what I normally hear coming from Finland.

Alongside Chantola are a few other Finnish producers and a dutch up and comer.  Basil O’Glue, Arctic Degrees and StoryTeller provide their own takes on the original, all versions that differ greatly from the producer’s typical sound.  I am very, very fond of this release because it showcases so much versatility and demonstrates that producers don’t need to pidgeon hole themselves by labeling their style.  This is truly a unique release, with each version kicking ass and don’t be surprised when you get knocked back at a club when any of these come on.
