Jonas Stenberg pr. Sunstate – Nightfall [2Play Records]

The mighty play at nighty...um, yeah.
- Andre
8.5/10

If you ever wondered what a 2010 hybrid cross between Push and Ferry Corsten might sound like, look no further my friends. It’s been nearly 3 years since Jonas has produced under this uplifting alias and if this first gem of 2010 is any indication, this Swedish producer is in top form and ready to storm dance floors!

Nightfall comes in two flavours: On the A side we’ve got an uplifting and driving Original Mix while on the B side we’re treated to a Rough Mix that sharpens up the edges into blunt weapons of audible destruction.  Both tracks are full of energy, and they certainly stand out from the typical crowd of TATW/ASOT dribble that so many younger producers are peddling.

Read on past the break for high quality samples of both versions.

Evgeny Bardyuzha – Hylea [Neuroscience Deep]

Now it's real, the Russians are taking over!
- Andre
8/10

Evgeny Bardyuzha is a regular feature at Neuroscience. His tracks regularly gain the support of DJs such as Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and Eddie Halliwell, thanks to his distinct and unique production style. Back in October of 2009, Evgeny released his debut artist album, ‘Point of No Return’, which we reviewed with critical appraise. Now, in 2010, Neuroscience brings you ‘Hylea‘, a track that was featured on his album, a track which I pointed out as a standard out production.

Hylea‘ is one of the strongest tracks from the album and it was an obvious choice for a full release with remixes. After teaming up with Russian website PromoDJ.ru, Neuroscience launched a remix contest, which well and truly delivered on the goods. It was hard work, but they managed to narrow it down to six winners including, Cramp, Vullcan, Rave CHannel, Broning, Deep Sound and Eryo. Not surprisingly, there are only 2 new names in that list! In addition, Evgeny has reworked the original album mix in to a DJ friendly club mix.

Eddie Sender – Prime Time/Big Mistake [Discover White Label]

Posted by Andre on December 8 under Releases | Be the First to Comment | 25 views

Dirty Mistakes, Prime Time Quakes
- Andre
8/10

img_483645745Eddie returns to the Discoverworld camp with a banging trancer that borders on heavy techno. If you’re anything like me you’ve been a fan of Eddie’s sound for years now, but you’ve found him to be losing his hard edge when it comes to his productions lately (maybe he just needs to stop putting out tripe on the Bonzai label…).

Regardless of your faith in his sound, this track will either re-inforce it, or give it new life.  Prime Time is a deep and growling trancer that features some frog like vocals that push the track along as it demolishes everything that stands in its way. On the B-Side we’ve got a track that amps the tempo and truly demonstrates the old tech-trancey groove that made Eddie a winner. The Big Mistake is a howling trancer that instantly picks you up and shakes you rhythmically until you relax and let it take over.  Yeah, it’s that infectious.  Kind of like a super virus….super aids perhaps? You know, the kind that gives you super powers…

Head on over the jump for some high quality samples and to vote for your favorite of the two tracks.

Sander van Doorn – Ninety [DOORN Records]

Cool today, Hot tomorrow!
- Andre
9/10

n108607896991_9921I’ve been eyeballing this track for some time now and it just landed on my desk, ready for some hot review action. For those of you who may not know who Sander van Doorn is, here’s what you need to know: He debuted on the Top 100 DJ poll at 32 (2006), and after a string of successful trance, electro and progressive releases under a few guises over the years, has managed to find himself at 13 on the list in 2008.  His quick rise to stardom is a testament to his rigid work ethics and dedication to perfection, Sander never, ever, disappoints.

I first discovered this latest one track release on DOORN Records while listening to Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance two weeks ago, just to give you an idea of just how fresh this ch00n is. The track features an old school synth melody that is damn familiar to me, but I’ve yet to decipher it’s origin. On top of that we’re treated to crisp chirps, hats and chimes throughout, giving this down and dirty club number an airy atmosphere. I can see this track having some massive remix potential, maybe Artento Divini?

If you’re dying to find out what all the hype is about, and I’m sure you are, read on past the jump for a high quality sample of this soon to be immortalized classic.

Magnesia – Follow Me [Magnetize]

Easy to follow, hard to stop...
- Andre
8/10

14334Its time to change things up and this time around I’m jumping into something a little techy, a little more clubby, a little more dirty. Magnetize, a Spinnin’ Records sublabel is headed by none other than Bart B More and Michiel Jenner.  After their massively successful first release they land with a second club anthem.

Follow Me is is a rather unique track that does without much of a bassline for it’s intro and even when it’s fully developed it shies away from overdoing things, concentrating instead on building an atmosphere that is dark and jovial all at the same time. On the B-Side we’ve got a dirty remix, the Eclecties Remix, that shows the other side to the track, a side that is edged, full of attitude and dirt.

Both versions showcase entirely different sounds, and for this reason alone, I’m singling this release out.  Add to that the high level of production, it’s catchy vocal samples, club friendly vibe and chilled out groove and you’ve got an instant anthem.

Deck Jagger – Utopia EP [Wildchild Records]

A truly versatile trio, from love to club!
- Andre
8/10

artworks-000000519938-tnjr89-originalI received this release, rather mysteriously, some time ago and as has been apparent lately, I’m busy playing catch up, so here we are today.  This release, the latest on Wildchild Records (the trance arm of Baroque Records) is a rather unique spin on the typical progressive trance sound that we’re hearing lately.

Deck Jagger, as I am sure many aren’t aware, is the harder edged alias for the Finnish production trio Syna. We’ve been covering Syna on MusiCritics as of late, and the entire Finnish trance wave to boot.  This latest effort from the boys incorporates some of the sounds you might find in a top 40 club hit with their signature smooth progressive sound. The release includes the title track, Utopia and a dirty,  club friendly track titled Gay Clubs Are Better

Read on past the break for high quality samples, you won’t want to miss Gay Clubs Are Better.  It happens to include a rather iconic quote from none other than Moby!

MEM – In Spirit [Liquid Recordings]

On it like a starved hyena on a dead carcass
- Andre
9/10

11826It’s always a nice surprise when a Liquid Recordings release lands on my desk, and this latest from Dutch hard hitter MEM is a tasty treat indeed! There’s no shortage of talent on the Liquid Recordings roster, what with Ummet Ozcan, 4 Strings, Sied van Riel, Topher Jones, Ron van den Beuken and more, in the last year alone, providing releases!

This latest stormer provides two tracks, each with a slightly different vibe and approach. Having not been familiar with MEM’s previous productions I decided to do a bit of research and discovered the following: “Progressive-House/Electro/Minimal DJ & producer from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, the Netherlands.” Though I don’t doubt his ability to transcend genres I found it rather strange that someone described as such as managed to put out such a top notch tech-trancer!

But I digress.  Read on past the jump for my full take on the two tracks, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your favorite!

Dada Life – Happy Hands and Happy Feet [The Hours]

Posted by Andre on March 31 under Downloads, Tracks | 3 Comments to Read | 181 views

rephlektorlist_singlecover

What a wonderful day today was.  I managed to enjoy the wonderful sunshine and received a rather interesting press release that turned out to be pure gold.  This latest review, and freebie, comes courtesy of the gents and ladies at The Hours and the Swedish duo, Dada Life.

The brainchild of Stockholm-based Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom, Dada Life doesn’t care about genres. They don’t care about smartness. They don’t care about the things you care about. Dada Life just wants to make you jump up and down. Then make you crash into a wall with a smile on your face.

That’s literally the only way I could describe the track.  It’s dirty, grimy and down right jaw dropping.  I’m looking forward to the day I get to hear this in a club, it’s possible I’ll melt into the soundsystem.  This is hot.

Read on past the break and get yourself a 100% legit copy of the track in high quality mp3.  Don’t forget who loves you…

Filthy Rich ft Marcie – Pandora’s Box [Floorplay]

floorplaymusic

It’s friday, and it’s only fitting to pump out a review for a total friday friendly track.  Hot off the presses from Floorplay Music, this latest gem features Marcie’s vocals layered on a solid electro house foundation. Marcie’s voice is quickly becoming iconic, she’s featured in countless dance music compilations, including Ferry Corsten’s ‘Gatecrasher Live’ CDs, and she’s literally taking the scene over by storm!

Joining Marcie on this release is Filthy Rich, of whom I cannot find any details.  Regardless, we’ve got two fine remixes in the package, by the likes of Prok & Fitch and Chris Montana & NiQ. All remixes are certainly unique, and each provide a different vibe, set for different stages of the night.  From electro house to tech house and a touch of acid and techno, you’ll want to check out the high quality remixes after the break!
