Well, it seems like the Discover team is just tearing through these albumsamplers and it brings us great joy to unveil the 3rd installment, of 4, to land on the Discover Records imprint. As many of you are aware, John Askew is releasing a remixed artist album at the end of May and to help lead up to that date the Recoverworld team is unleashing 4 album samplers that contain remixes from Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson, Reaky, Activa and many other heavy hitters. Be sure to enter our giveaway for your chance to win 1 of 2 copies of this 2XCD artist album!
On this third sampler we’ve got a line up of remixers that went above and beyond, each providing some amazingly tasty and hard/epic trance reworks for you to bop the night away. This release, like the previous samplers, is not for the faint of heart. I found myself feeling revved up and pissed off beyond belief after listening to the tracks herein, so proceed with caution.

Timmy & Tommy are no strangers to infectious, club friendly techno grooves and this latest on Oxygen Recordings is even more epic than their previous work together. This young Irish duo have had releases land on Full Tilt Recordings (their own imprint I believe), Coldharbour Recordings, Armada and now Oxygen!
Repercussions is an epic monster of a track, doing much damage with very little. Much like their previous massive club hit Full Tiltin, this track meanders through dark and grimy sounds, and it’s slower than anticipated pace truly creates an atmosphere of anticipation and anxiety. Pair that up with some industrial claps and percs and you’ve got all the trappings of a massive club smasher that would destroy an underground club!
I’m told these are brand new remixes of an old classic by Philip D, but frankly, I can’t find any details on the original track, and on who Philip D is exactly. I’ve found an artist on Discogs with the same name, is that you Philip? I’ve got a feeling this isn’t a classic at all, but regardless, we’re in for a treat with this latest sampler from RESET Records.
Randy is in my top 3 all time trance producers, and it’s his tribal influenced tech trance that instantly brings me back to 2004. Ah, what a time that was…Snapping back to the present day, this latest remix by Randy Katana is in your face from the start, with an oddly arranged kickdrum/hat sequence that gets the party rolling in no time! The track is full of build ups, break downs, groovy drums and an epic tribal house groove that steals heavily from his tech trance past.
Adding to the sampler is a remix from Addy van der Zwan who decides Randy’s epic version isn’t quite dark enough and tears a hole straight into hell from earth. Adding to the track’s allure is a simple vocal track, presumably taken from the Original. Read on past the jump for high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your fave!

Eric Fox aka eleven point five is back again, and what a great way to start the middle of the month welcoming spring with this lovely EP, despite the grey color. Grey has a beautiful warmth to it with a touch of sadness along the way. A different sound coming from Eric, but it is very pleasant to listen to and it would certainly fit well in just about any progressive trance set.
Complementing the ep is two remixes from Dangerbox Artist Eric Shaw and Affecto, both did a superb job at delivering these monster remixes. Eric Fox made sure to include a second track to go along with this EP titled “Transparent“, which still has more of the eleven.five sound, yet again beautiful melodies and bass. I’d say this very track belongs int he Anjunadeep collection, but it seems to have been snagged up by the ladies and gents at Dangerbox Recordings.
Make sure to grab a copy, and enjoy the spring season with this EP! If you’re interested in hearing the tracks, head over past the break and be sure to vote for your fave!
Dutch wonder kid Setrise returns to Neuroscience with his new TECHSTR alias… His more trancey Setrise productions have gained the support of DJs like Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery and Tiesto. We have a good feeling that this new, more techy, TECHSTR alias will prove just as popular! It’s already convinced us…
Featuring two original mixes, which are massive club oriented tech trance tracks, the TECHSTR alias is definitely off to a good start. Using a solid kick/bass combination alongside some great percussion and synths, these tracks have loads of energy while keeping an underground feel that doesn’t feel cheesy, but instead is very primal and at times tribal. Backing up the two original mixes, we have a superb remix from Ken Loi. You might recognise Ken as the winner of Tiesto’s ‘Knock You Out’ remix competition. Ken is still on fire and turns in a big-room techy remix.

As one half of Heatbeat, Agustin Servente has been exciting trance fans for some time with a string of quality releases on labels including Armada, Istmo and High Contrast.
With this latest solo release and debut on Matt Hardwick’s Kill the Lights, as one half of Heatbeat, Augustin is set to explode onto the scene as a solo force to reckon with. The latest on Kill The Lights comes packed with two other massive versions, one from Jonas Hornblad and another from my all time favorite remixer, Liam Melly. Liam is capable of bending sound in ways typically unheard of in the Trance scene, this remix is no different!
Agustin’s original is an uplifting melodic affair with an infectious hook that rightly remains prominent throughout this 3 track pack. Another biggie from Kill the Lights…
Well, I’m sorry for the lack of reviews last week, thank you Shrey for holding the place up while I was busy buying my first house. Getting back into the groove of things is never easy to do, but when I’ve got an absolute monster from Sean Truby waiting to be reviewed, it certainly helps lube things up.
Sean is without a doubt the fastest rising trance star at the moment, after bursting onto the scene in early 2008 he’s gone on to steal my heart time and time again. His sound is typically uplifting with a heavy dose of Discover vibe, but this latest on 2Play is more akin to a Sean Tyas / Askew tech trance monster. Showdown is his hardest hitting track to date, and expect to hear PvD, Armin, O’Callaghan and others whore it out at WMC this year. This is not your cookie cutter trance, this is a well crafted, varied soundscape that pounds the entire time.

It’s been a while, but Mark Norman are still going strong and they proudly present their fabulous new single entitled Fobiac. This is definitely a track that combines the best of both techno and trance.
Fobiac has a remarkable intro with an undeniable Depeche Mode sound, but once the track picks up speed you’re immediately dragged into the original Mark Norman style we all like so much. Nice, tight and ripping strings guide everyone on the dance floor to that superb first break with its hard hammering synth stabs, after which we move on to the second break that will most definitely rock every trance event. Trained DJs will even notice some genuine funk in this one.
For the trance specialists among the DJs, the San Remix has been tacked on to provide a fresh take on this sleeping beast. The all new arrangement and the additional synth and drum programming turn the original into a real ISOS cut. Fobiac by Mark Norman is a bass heavy must for all DJs of today! Well, as we all know very well, no classic trance tune is safe from the 2010 treatment, and it’s always a wonder how they manage to revive these and turn them into effective crowd pleasers….but time and time again, they do. Don’t get me wrong, often times they don’t, and this latest package does!
Marco V teamed up with Benjamin Bates way back in 1998 to release Luvstruck under the Southside Spinners guise. It was their only track together under that moniker, and for the past few years it seemed the track had been finally laid to rest as a defining trance classic of the late 90s. It turns out this wasn’t what the gents had in mind and in 2010 they’ve recruited a fresh batch of producers to rework the monster into a beast.
In this 6 remix pack are reworks from Marco V himself, Cliff Coenraad, Benny Royal, Filthy Rich, My Digital Enemy and Prok & Fitch. Marco’s version is undoudtedly Marco V a la 2010. Cliff’s version is MASSIVE beyond beliefe and steals the show. The other versions are utter garbage, wavering somewhere between confused tech house and confused electro.

Let’s see….this is review #5 today, and even though I told myself I’d be done after 4, I popped this gem into Winamp and well, I simply can’t let it sit idly on my computer without telling the world about it.
Bobby’s name hadn’t appeared on MusiCritics until today, and though that seems horribly wrong, I welcome his name to our pages with open arms. I’ve known Bobby personally for a number of years now, and it’s about damn time I start recognizing his talent on the site. This isn’t to say I haven’t loved his previous work, hell, one of his very own productions consistently gets played in my radio and live sets (especially in the summer!), and you can buy it on Beatport here!
This latest effort by Mr. Savage comes courtesy of Gabriel Batz’ label, Ora Recordings. Based out of Montreal, Ora has received support from some of the world’s top jocks including Roger Shah, Solarstone, Mark Pledger, and many others. Beautiful Brontosaur is a rather savage track that starts off with a wonderfully progressively summer vibe that quickly, with nary an indication, transforms into a growling beast after the lush breakdown and crash. What Bobby’s done here is craft a track that would be the perfect opener for say, Marco V (at Guv), or in a few months, Armin’s 450th episode bash at the Koolhaus. Someone get this track in his hands, it’s destined to melt hearts around the world. Along with the 4 to the floor proggy beast is a quiet sleeper in the form of a Mesozoic Sunset Mix. This truly showcases the man’s versatility!
