Rank 1 vs Jochen Miller – The Great Escape [High Contrast Recordings]

Mr Sam, what are you thinking...
- Andre
8/10

These aren’t new names around these here blocks, and we’ll continue to welcome these blokes time and time again to our site as they sure do know how to tear the roof off a dance club. Rank 1 exploded onto the dance music scene in 1999 with the hugely popular Airwave, and they managed to follow that up with Such Is Life and Symsonic only a few years later.

Jochen Miller on the other hand, started producing in 2001, but it wasn’t till 2004 that he made his break and then again in 2005 with a remix that I still consider in my top 10 of all time.  The remix? His version of Silent Electra’s Polarity. side note: Jochen Miller is one half of Silent Electra…

This latest production on High Contrast Recordings is tearing things up at the moment, with a massive string of support at WMC these tracks can only keep gaining weight as the summer unfolds. The Great Escape is a track that caught my ears sometime ago now, and with the Original Mix doing most of the dancefloor damage, you’ll be glad to know there are two other remixes included in the full package.  Young stalwart Jonas Stenberg sees himself deliver a version chock full of attitude while Mr Sam does what he does best, push the boundaries of techno music with his off beat style of trance.

Destined to sweep the floors...
- Andre
8/10

For this beautiful new title, the two Russian producers of Moonbeam teamed up with Tyler Michaud. The result is the absolutely captivating “Openhearted”, which features the vocals of the fabulous Tiff Lacey. Her vocals have taken so many productions to the highest regions of the charts and that will most certainly happen with this one. This is truly a well crafted club friendly, trance purist, top 40 loving hybrid tune that we’re sure you’ll love it!

Together with Tyler Michaud, Moonbeam have established a warm, soothing and deep vocal trance production that will send shivers down your spine; one that’s absolutely tailor made for the upcoming spring and summer festivals. You won’t be able to forget the chorus for the entire season! Swen Weber was tasked with reworking the original and turned it into a brand new cut that’s rougher, louder and perfect for the big sets that kick off at midnight. “Openhearted”, a stunningly beautiful floor filler!

Darren Tate – Tokyo/Vespers [Mondo Records]

Two refreshing beauties from a scene Vet!
- Andre
8/10

Mondo godfather and UK mastermind producer Darren Tate kicks 2010 off in fine style with a super hot EP setting up the path to his eagerly awaited third album ‘Horizons 03’.  Straight on the back foot of his massive rework of the Angelic classic “It’s My Turn” and last year’s stunning “When The Morning Comes”, Darren returns to deliver more of that Tate magic with his new two track EP.

Kicking off the EP is the beautifully crafted “Tokyo”, a banging peak-time cut that manages to blend eastern culture with Tate’s trademark razor sharp production. With its addictive melodies, gorgeous breakdown and thumping bass line Tokyo is Tate at his best. On the flip you’ll find “Vespers”, an equally timeless production that incorporates beautiful chords and stirring emotional melodies as only Darren knows how. Vespers is quite simply an uplifting and emotional masterpiece that will cause major damage on the dance floor in 2010.

Evgeny Bardyuzha – Hylea [Neuroscience Deep]

Now it's real, the Russians are taking over!
- Andre
8/10

Evgeny Bardyuzha is a regular feature at Neuroscience. His tracks regularly gain the support of DJs such as Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and Eddie Halliwell, thanks to his distinct and unique production style. Back in October of 2009, Evgeny released his debut artist album, ‘Point of No Return’, which we reviewed with critical appraise. Now, in 2010, Neuroscience brings you ‘Hylea‘, a track that was featured on his album, a track which I pointed out as a standard out production.

Hylea‘ is one of the strongest tracks from the album and it was an obvious choice for a full release with remixes. After teaming up with Russian website PromoDJ.ru, Neuroscience launched a remix contest, which well and truly delivered on the goods. It was hard work, but they managed to narrow it down to six winners including, Cramp, Vullcan, Rave CHannel, Broning, Deep Sound and Eryo. Not surprisingly, there are only 2 new names in that list! In addition, Evgeny has reworked the original album mix in to a DJ friendly club mix.

Marcel Woods – Everything [High Contrast Recordings]

Making everything feel like home
- Andre
8/10

Fresh from remixing for the mighty Tiësto, dr. Woods drop this new bomb. There was a time when Marcel’s sound was cutting edge, in your face and unique in ways that left many partiers speechless.  Fast forward some 5-6 years and Marcel’s sound is now everywhere, and sadly, it isn’t just him pushing it out.  Though I cringe at the horrid attempts other producers are making at mimicking his sound, I have to give credit where credit is due.  His old sound has done more for the club trance scene than most have in 20 years!

‘Everything’ follows the same path as ‘Inside Me’, so expect some typical Woods beats and big room melodies. If you don’t dig the vocal, you will dig the dub, and I know you till, cuz I did.  Read on past the break to hear high quality samples of both versions and find out which one I singled out as piping hot….can you guess?

There’s a new electro imprint in town, and it’s poised to take over dancefloors across the world!   Big Alliance Records has been making some noise lately with releases constantly charting on the Beatport, Trackitdown, Junodownload and Beatsdigital charts, and this new EP is sure to continue that streak!

Radio Jack is a on the right path to have a great 2010 and “Hit On EP” is just sure to kick start the new decade the right way. “Hit On This” is a mix of Electro House with the very popular fidgety sound, lots of swagger and you can see its a completely club destroyer! While “Hit On That” lands in the full Electro House lane with lots of rhythm and groove.

Having remixed Electro Super Star Wolfgang Gartner in 09, plus having worked with high profile labels like Netswork, Ego and System Recordings and with upcoming releases not only at Big Alliance Records but Starlight/Motivo you sure should keep an eye open for this talented producer in 2010!

Mark Pledger ft Melinda Gareh – Time Stands Still [Solaris Recordings]

The ultimate pick-me-up trancer!
- Andre
9/10

This release landed on my desk in a most serendipitous manner, and am I ever glad it arrived!  This latest release on the Solaris imprint comes courtesy of Mark Pledger and features the lovely vocals of Melinda Gareh.

If you’ve been following the trance scene for some time you might recognize her voice from the massive 2005 vocal trance hit The Unknown.  This track was, surprise, produced by Mark Pledger and Oliver Smith under their White Water guise, and well, it’s a treat to get to hear her vocals again.

Along with the tasty Original Mix are two other mixes, one a Dub mix of the Original and a groovy rework by Songbird’s Andy Duguid. Read on past the break for some high quality samples and for my take on each version.

Chris Cowie – Absconder [Bellboy Records]

To run away and hide...
- Andre
8/10

Kicking off the New Year right, Chris Cowie and the entire Bellboy Records family is proud to present the first release of 2010……”Absconder”.

“Absconder” is a two tracker by funky tech-house guru Chris Cowie that is so good that we’ll offer a money back guarantee if you don’t like it. Ok…..we’re not giving your money back but trust us, it will fill the floor and you will love it.

Chris starts things off with the original mix of “Absconder” and as always the Cowman doesn’t disappoint. To say this track has movement would be an understatement. In typical Cowie fashion the bassline is intertwined with multiple synthlines that just seem to fit perfectly together. Couple this with the occasional synthline crescendo and you will have any crowd surging.

For all of you Dj’s out there the remix of “Absconder” will be your money maker! If your crowd is lagging around the dance floor then just pull this Tech-House groover out of your digital box and let it ride. This track has a nasty bassline that’s paired with an in your face beat that can only make your set better…..guaranteed!

Ivan Litus – Fraction of a Second [Finity Global]

An everlasting Impression!
- Andre
9/10

Released mid December, this well crafted 2 track release from Finity elevates the label’s already impressive sound catalog to new heights. It’s been some time since I’ve covered a Finity release, but expect a few gems over the next week as I make up for lost time with 4 new releases!

Ukrainian born, Ivan is currently based out of New York and this is only his second release to date, with his first landing on Ora Recordings (who some might know as Gabriel Batz’ home label).  Though this artist is young and new to the scene, his sound smells countless years spent combing music while finally arriving to what we hear today, and not a second too soon!

Fraction Of A Second is a progressive trancer that incorporates a gritty and groovy underlying bass and drum line, and I can’t help but draw some stark parallels to Joonas Hahmo’s earlier work. On the B Side we’ve got a rework from previous Finity Alumni Beach X who delivers a smooth and chilled out rendition of the original.  It’s quite literally a night and day comparison for these two versions, and I’m quite glad to see such different takes on a gorgeous melody.
