After going bankrupt in March 2003, this former Lightning Records sublabel has been resurrected by Banshee Worx. Since their rebirth the label has consistently put out fantastic progressive trance by the likes of Latigidi (Joost van der Vleuten), Joni Ljungqvist (JPL), Ville Lope, Planisphere (Airwave) and many others.
This latest release comes courtesy of Finnish progressive powerhouse Ville Lope. Ville is no stranger to our neck of the woods and along with his original mix of ‘Pulp Friction’ is the inclusion of a tasty intro mix and a slightlier tranced out version by Syna.

I’ve recently renewed my love for anything Ville Lope touches, and this latest release features a fantastic remix by the man himself. The original, Forever, by Syna, is featured on Bonzai Trance. For those who don’t recognize Syna by name, after almoust a year-long break, the Most Famous Boy Band in Finnish Trance Scene returns – with a huge progressive breakbeat choon!
“Forever” combines a movie-like atmosphere, big orchestral elements and organic sounds (including saxophone) with a driving bassline and precisely cut beats to create a truly progressively genre melting release. Along with the Original Mix are remixes by Ayleon and Ville Lope. There’s also a radio Edit but I won’t bother with it.

Ville Lope is not a stranger round these parts! As such I’ve been on the lookout for anything with his name on it, and lo and behold! His newest single, “Blowfish,” sees him teaming up with one of his acquaintances, dubbed Chantola. On the remix duty is Planisphere (Better known as the legendary Airwave), and Spiritus and Asper, who remixed Ville’s recent release, Gratitude. Enough banter, dive in!

With releases dating back to 2003, this fearless duo’s been honing their skill (most recently on Transatlantic by DJ Fire) and this latest release on Bonzai Music proves that progressive can indeed be forward thinking.
The very first offering on this release is titled ‘Fantastic’, and although it starts off rather slowly, it certainly snowballs into a fiery electro mess by the end. On the B-Side we’ve got a hot progressive number that shines, thanks to an amazing breakdown and buildup.

As I might have mentioned I’ve been following Chinese up-and-comer Yuan for some time, but this release caught my ear, and I feel it deserves some true recognition. This is his single East Wind, on Dark Bird Recordings. Just the one track, no remixes or B-Sides this time around. Let’s go!

Up next is a release off of Green Martian (A Bonzai sublabel)…TaylorK’s Tetramorph. Included is a remix by Chinese upstart Yuan, who I’ve been keeping my eye(or is it ear?) on. Enough banter, let’s dive in!

My love affair with DJ Fire, proper name Jurgen Leyers, began in mid 2004 when I discovered a guest mix he did for Markus Schulz’ Global DJ Broadcast show (track listing). Fast forward to today and he’s had a string of hits on many labels, most of which are some of the smoothest progressive trance around.
His latest effort, ‘Transatlantic’, released on Progrez (Bonzai), is a throwback to days of old when I had ‘Summermorning’ on repeat for hours. With a soft and lush melody, the original has me grinning from ear to ear. On the flipside we’ve got a punchy and techy remix from Antidote (Laurent Véronnez/Airwave & Marnik from Bonzai).
Read on for my take and samples of this fantastic release from Progrez.

This week I got the opportunity to review some material by Belgian producer Airwave, who some of you may know as L-Vee, or one of the members of Cape Town. Fresh off his latest album come two tracks, “Candy of Life,” and “Sunshine in Your Heart.” Now, I will be the first to say that Touareg is an excellent album, and that if you have not checked it out, you should, post-haste. That said, I’ll be giving you my opinions regarding the original mixes of the two aforementioned tracks, as well as two new mixes. Andy Tau stepped up to deliver a remix of “Candy of Life,” while Airwave puts out a club mix of “Sunshine in Your Heart,” dubbed the “Club-A-Dub” mix. Read on past the break to see what I have to say about this release.

After several success with Proglifter, Percivalesque and Métaphorique it was time to do a little more and Cape Town did, producer Airwave and Ferry Tayle teamed up to make a bunch of new tracks and rework some old tunes which are all comprised in this brilliant true tance album and is for sure one of the big releases of 2008. With a remix contest coming on this album as well, it promises to be a big release!!!
