Moove your arse.

Ah, a Jonas Steur track. You can count on techno-prog-house-style grooves and in this case, infectious vocals…Right? Well, that’s what I’ve come to expect! What I did not expect was to see Jonas’ brother, Simon, on remix duty, but then again, I should have expected that…This should be interesting! Read on for samples, and vote for your favorite Steur…Or remix. Whatever.

Taking off in a club near you!

8/10

R-1829996-1246287956.jpegThe In Trance We Trust camp has garnered quite the reputation over the years for providing their fans with solid trance that would go down well in a bustling club, or on a sun drenched Ibizan beach.  It’s this ability to constantly deliver the same style that makes them a powerhouse in the trance music scene.

This latest effort from Swedish star Carl B introduces a fresh name in Chris R. (any details, anyone?) and together they’ve created a track that will certainly instantly become a club anthem. Lush Pads, epic builds, and enough euphoria to raise the dead abound in this release.  On the B Side we’ve got a stunning remix from ITWT homeboy Alex Kunnari.

Read on for my take on the two tracks, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your favorite!

Jesus dog, go!

Jesus dog, go!

Smart Apes is actually a new alias for Aquile and TB, having had a string of releases, this is their debut on the mighty Black Hole imprint, and well, we shall see how they fare. Enclosed find an original and radio edit, and remixes by Amex (Who has been getting his name out there with a degree of success), and Michael Angelo vs. Silver J & Catania, all of which I have never seen nor heard. It should be interesting. Read on!

Kimito Lopez – There’s No Such Thing As Mermaids / Unicron [Songbird]

Posted by Aaron on April 7 under Releases | Be the First to Comment | 113 views

r-1700235-1237827097I’ve been watching Norwegian hotshot Kimito Lopez for awhile, even having the chance to interview him, following his release of the awesome Melkweg (Which appeared on ISOS7, by the way). Funny guy, isn’t he? Strangely enough, I’m not so amused by this new E.P.’s track title…How dare he say that there’s no mermaids! He doesn’t know, he’s not a marine biologist, is he?! What’s next? No chupacabras? No Bigfoot? Blasphemy!

…But I’ll ignore that and try to proceed with a neutral mindset. Read on!

Emilio Fernandez – Saltillo [Songbird]

Posted by Andre on March 19 under Releases | Read the First Comment | 97 views

r-1628486-1233283062

I’ve slowly been falling in love with many of Songbird’s more recent productions, with Andy Duguid being my favorite purveyor of all things fine and trancey on the label. Though my interest in the label is but a few years old, their very first release was back in 2002, when Tiesto released his In Search of Sunrise 3 mix to much fanfare.

Emilio, however, burst into my musical life but a few months ago, when I discovered his smooth progressive house production ‘Reynosa’ on this very label. This latest production does away with the more balearic vibe he provided in ‘Reynosa’ and instead focuses on a darker sound that would certainly find a cozy home in a darkly lit club full of crazed up dancers. On remix duties we’ve got the relative newcomer Scott Wallis who provides a glitched and techy version.

Read on past the break for high quality samples and be sure to cast your vote for your favorite song! Also, be sure to get yourself a copy, it was released in late January…yeah, I know, I’m late.

Elsa Hill – Stay In My Dream [Black Hole Recordings]

Posted by Aaron on February 26 under Releases | Read the First Comment | 110 views

black-hole-259-0-smallHello there! You might notice that I’ve been kinda taking a bit of a break from the reviewing…This is really to let you know I’m alive and kicking! Since my DJ mixer is currently in the shop, I’ve someone entangled myself in the deep, fathomless world of music production…And basically, I’ve been saving my ears for that. I have been going at it at least 3 hours a day, every day, for the past couple of weeks, and believe me, I am making progress…Or at least I think so! Tonight, my ears have been spared from the production, and with a little bit of track shopping (Haven’t done that for awhile either!) brought about by Paul Oakenfold’s ‘99 EM World Tour, I bought up some fresh tunes. These are a couple of aforementioned tunes.

Elsa Hill is making herself known around the scene as a vocalist(a good one at that, I believe!), DJ (Couldn’t tell ya, haven’t seen her in action), and producer, the trifecta rarely seen among female contributors to the scene. This offering sees her providing the vocals (I don’t know of an original mix) to two mixes: one from Jonas Steur, who has consistently worked wonders with vocal tracks, and the other from Lost Stories, who seem to be digging deeper into the scene’s share of exposure. Ben Preston – Elizabeth [Songbird]

Ben’s been on fire lately (as you might have noticed on our site) and he’s not showing any signs of letting up.  His latest effort on Lost Language, ‘Lake Nasser‘, has already been documented on our site, and is getting rave reviews from DJs and fans around the world. This time around, he returns to Tiesto’s camp with ‘Elizabeth’ on Songbird.

Another of my producers to watch out for in 2009, ‘Elizabeth’ is smooth progressive house with a hint of techno to give it just the right edge.  It’s 100% danceable and the breakdown works on so many levels. On remix duties Ben’s attracted a heavy hitter in Jonas Steur, and Jonas delivers an epic rendition of the original. Jonas adds to the track his signature tech sound and turns the danceable original into a dancefloor destroyer.

Ad Brown – Mirrors / Chasing Rainbows [Fris!]

Posted by Andre on February 17 under Releases | 3 Comments to Read | 222 views

r-1535178-1230723955jpeg

If you haven’t heard Ad’s productions already, get ready for 2009.  He’s at the top of my list of producers to watch for in ‘09, and this latest release on newly launched Fris! (Black Hole Sublabel) is a testimony to his sheer skill.

After a hugely successful first release on Fris! this latest, ‘Mirrors’ and ‘Chasing Rainbows’ are so well crafted that I’m reminded of old Nick Warren/GU/Northern Exposure progressive house.  These two tracks are deep, chuggy and downright sexy to boot. Be sure to read on, I’ve included some high quality samples.

sidenote: I can’t dig anything up on this artist, and I sure hope I’ve made the right assumption when referring to the artist as a male.  Can anyone help out here? Also, I used the wrong art cover, but I’ve not been given the latest fris! covers yet…

Cosmic Gate ft Emma Hewitt – Not Enough Time [Black Hole Recordings]

Posted by Andre on February 16 under Releases | 2 Comments to Read | 186 views

r-1635276-1234380338jpeg

After her massive hit in 2007, Emma’s been relatively quiet in the dance scene, but it looks like 2009 might be her year yet.  This time she’s teamed up with German superstars Cosmic Gate to deliver a sultry progressive trancer.  Cosmic Gate have been around the block a few times, and in their 10th year producing, it’s easy to draw parallels between the duo and a fine wine.

Along for the ride are 3 other mixes of the original.  The package includes a Club friendly version as well as remixes from Sied van Riel and Songbird staple Andy Duguid.  Each remix showcases a different side of the remix, while retaining it’s original sound.

Thomas Sagstad & Novacoast – Bombora Beach [Black Hole Recordings]

Posted by Andre on February 9 under Releases | Be the First to Comment | 110 views

bhr_257_bombora_beach

Thomas Sagstad & Novacoast deliver a balearic trancer on Tiesto’s very own imprint, Black Hole Recordings.  I’ve been reviewing BH releases for some time now, and it seems the label’s aim is to deliver trance, often times progressive, with a strong balearic vibe.  This latest release, Bombora Beach, is no different.

Though the title might lead you to believe that Bombora Beach is an actual location, it in fact, isn’t.  A Bombora is an Aussie term for large sea waves breaking over submerged rocks. The original mix is a sultry little piece that transports you to another place, somewhere calm and warm.  I’m such a sucker for string based melodies! On the B-Side, we’re treated to a tasty little remix by Ben Huijbregts, tiesto’s very own recording engineer.  The remix is faster, darker and edgier, but still maintains it’s balearic roots.

Read on for some tasty high quality samples.
