It seems to be artist album season, and with about 5-6 albums waiting to get some attention, I decided to skip a few and jump to this smooth and soothing progressive gem. This isn’t the first time that Toes In The Sand have graced our website, nor is it Soulfinder’s first either, with an earlier remix on a tasty package by Josel.

This artist album arrived as a surprise, and needless to say, the surprises didn’t end there. “Wasteland” is also the debut LP for Dublin’s Soulfinder, who has quickly made a name for himself with a flurry of top-shelf originals and remixes. Though deep and mature like a fine Malbec, “Wasteland” is no snoozer, working equally well for dancefloors and headphones. Also included is a continuous DJ mix of the album, mixed by the man himself.

I’m not going to lie, this review has been sitting on my back burner for months now (since july!) and I’ve been afraid to tackle it simply because it includes 22 tracks. The entire album’s size is so daunting that I’ve had to take it in, bit by bit, until I was finally able to properly voice my opinion. It appears that day has come.

The entire album spans quite a wide spectrum, everything from dubbed and tripped out tech house, deep and soulful house and some club worthy progressive bangers! I’ll be highlighting some of my favorites and if you’re looking for some truly unique and amazing house productions, be sure to hit up the read more link!

I’ll be discussing the highlights, including high quality samples and provide you with all the juicy details about the album!

An album that embodies musical origin and evolution.

Sexy mugshot inside...

I first discovered Evgeny shortly after Che Armstrong launched the Neuroscience Recordings label back in January of 2007.  Since then I’ve been following both the label and Evgeny’s progress and they’ve both experienced massive success in the trance realm, success they rightly deserve!

Evgeny’s debut album is quite literally, and I know this sounds rather cliché, a breakthrough album.  This young Russian producer has managed to compile 12 tracks that embody his origin and evolution as a dance music producer and will surely cement his position in a very rare group of producers. Traversing multiple genres from start to finish, this album is a journey through the mind of a young producer extraordinaire and he gives listeners of all walks enough time and space to catch up and enjoy what they’re hearing.

Read on past the break for a few highlights, some key samples and juicy details on the album.

Darren Tate’s Horizons 02 (the follow up to the massive Horizons 01) is an explosive trance journey consisting of not just some of the biggest club moments of the last few years but six stunning new singles never before released!

Pretty much every A‐List DJ has supported many of these fantastic records, including huge club moments like “Echoes”, the Computer Music Mag featured “On The 7th Day”, “I Would Die For You” and many more. However it’s the new singles that will be setting clubs alight this year with massive new anthems such as the gorgeous “When The Morning Comes”, the monstrous “Reverse The Silence”, the electro‐infused “Sun Electro” or “Kireii” (Darren’s exclusive mix for the title track from the forthcoming feature film “Royal Kill”) .

And if that’s not enough the album includes the world premier performance of “Dark Skies”, written and orchestrated by Darren and performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra! Read on past the break for some tasty samples and more details on the album which was just released yesterday, on Sept 14 2009!

Quality and Quantity, this label has it all!

obir_introspectionIn case you haven’t noticed already, we’re huge supporters of everything Recover World related, and although Conspiracy Recordings aren’t formally attached, their label heads have graced the covers of many a Discover release in the past.

A little more than three years from the labels inception, Conspiracy Recordings are proud to bring you Introspection, compiled and mixed by label head man, Jon O’Bir. The milestone comes after a string of successful releases by the likes of Tom Colontonio, Sunshade, Underwater, Peter Martijn Wijnea, Niklas Grosswald and label heads, Jon O’Bir and Activa; All of which are featured on this compilation.

This latest 2 Disc compilation landed on my desk and instantly I  started to prepare for it. I’ve heard many people mention in passing that the biggest drawback to the ‘Discover’ sound is the ‘Discover’ sound, but it is my opinion that this sound exemplifies exactly what is great about trance nowadays. (A quick distinction: The Conspiracy Recordings sound not entirely the ‘Discover’ sound, but draws some very similar parallels.)

This compilation, which packs 30 tracks onto 2 full CDs, is a testament to a pure trance style that is often times hard to find.

From acid to epic!

Electronic music tends to move at the speed of insanity, and even in this turmoil it is quite retrospective and full-circle…You see new remixes of old tracks cropping up all the time, but this is a different kind of retrospect. Simon Berry (Better known as Art of Trance) has come a long way from starting up the now-legendary Platipus label, starting out as a humble acid trance purveyor, and now ending up as the guy who has brought us all sorts of greatness, via his productions, collaborations, and well, his label, the label that unleashed Madagascar, Calling Your Name, Air, The Fade, and countless others upon the world.

Now Simon pauses for a moment to show us where he is coming from, re-mastering his two artist albums, and cooking up a DJ mix. Three discs of quirky samples, acid grooves, and plenty of epic to go along. Read on!

At a time when most dance labels are cutting costs, stripping back and going digital only, Nervous Records has their own idea of how to do business in a rough climate – offer more! That’s the rationale behind Oscar G’s whopping new three-disc effort, DJ (dē’jā’). But it’s not only offering more, it’s offering more of a good thing. Oscar’s project comes without the influence or suggestions of hit-making Nervous Records. This is 100% from the mind of Oscar G and offers a comprehensive and honest look at what’s made this artist a sensation at home in Miami and via the global dance charts.

Grab this exclusive 1 track download featuring Oscar’s track Innosense which will be featured on his 3Disc compilation “DJ”.

Chris Lake – Crazy [Nervous Records]

Dance music fans know all about the impact classic Nervous artists like John Wink, Masters At Work and Todd Terry have made on global dance floors. Each started from scratch and worked their way up to lay the groundwork for the next generation of dance music producers. Keeping with tradition Nervous Records is pleased to introduce next-in-line producer and resident hit-maker – Chris Lake.  Lake’s debut artist album Crazy dropped this past April 27 and is it ever a site to behold!

Each track is distinctly unique, with sounds ranging from patio chilling tunes like Give In to club monsters like Robots, this album not only manages to be the sound of tomorrow, but it speaks to my experiences as a dance fanatic. I usually try and highlight a few of the tracks on albums I review, but the more I listen to the album, the more I realize I might need to do a little overtime.

Read on for my full review of the album and for your chance to hear high quality samples of the tracks!

Friday Freebie: Nickodemus – Sun Children

rephlektorlist_coverartlores

If you are a fan of electronic dance music and visited New York City during the past 10 years, no doubt you witnessed the impact Nickodemus made on the big city scene. The Brooklyn-based artist has performed alongside a decade’s worth of the scene’s finest international talent and soundtracked the summers with his massively popular Turntables On The Hudson live events. More than just 4/4 beats and a night out, Nickodemus is known for adding something a bit more musical and spiritual to the mix. There’s real culture and social themes incorporated into Nickodemus’ music. With the weather warming up timing could not be better for the release of Nickodemus’ sophomore artist CD, the aptly titled Sun People (released June 16 on Thievery Corporation’s ESL Music).

Conceptually, Sun People was built with songs made for people who love the sun, sunshine and brighter days to come. Songs were inspired by various people Nickodemus met and places he’s been, along with his collective feelings of optimism. “Sun People makes the best of every situation. When that sun peaks out in the sky, it’s another day to feel and do something positive” Nickodemus says.

To get an exclusive sneak peek at his forthcoming album, read on past the break, I’ve included a free high quality copy of it for you to download and keep!
