Carlo Calabro – Fun is Fun/Done is Done [Captivate

A double dose of monster madness!
- Andre
8/10

Slated as one of Captivate’s first releases of the new year, Carlo’s double player is as fun as it is done.  If you aren’t familiar with the Captivate sound, it’s a sub label of Fektive Records dedicated to Trance & Progressive, as well as what’s commonly called Tech-Trance.

Carlo’s sound fits the Captivate mold perfectly, melting progressive with electro and tech trance elements, he never fails to embody the club sound that so many of us seek away from our weekend benders.  Fun is Fun is a groovy little number that falls somewhere between Jochen Miller, Marco V and Sander van Doorn. Big Room Synths, funky filters and stabbed synths aplenty in this deep and growling tech-electro-trancer. Done is Done kicks the tempo up a notch or two, creating a furious atmosphere that is full of tension, anxiety and what seems like coffee fueled nerves.  This B-Side is not for the faint of heart.

Free Xmas Gift from Daniel Wanrooy!

Posted by Andre on December 28 under Downloads, Tracks | 2 Comments to Read | 43 views

Daniel’s been featured on our site a handful of times, and his sheer ability to make club friendly trance tunes is obvious to anybody’s who has the chance to listen to radio shows or livesets from some of the world’s top jocks over the past year. Straight from the horse’s mouth:

I made this track for the people who supported me this year. This year has been amazing and I achieved many things, like Trance Energy next year for example. I couldn’t do this without all the votes and support. That’s why I made “Daniel Wanrooy – Dream with me”, the title is because my dreams came true this year. I am giving this track away with Christmas on my new website, Myspace and Facebook. The track is already played by Armin van Buuren in ASOT and Markus Schulz in GDJB.

Head on over after the break for a direct download link to the entire track in it’s 320kbps glory!  Merry Christmas to all!!!!

BT ft Jes – Every Other Way [Black Hole Recordings]

His follow up to 'Rose of Jericho'!
- Andre
8/10

Black Hole 300-0 400x400

BT’s latest single release “The Rose Of Jericho” continues to be incredibly successful and makes everyone very curious about his upcoming album. This new single, “Every Other Way”, already turned out to be a favourite of many of his fans, simply because of its slow paced, almost singer song writer class. But with the heavenly vocals of JES, Black Hole wanted to extend the potential of the original some more. Finally you can lay your grubby hands on not just the radio edit and album version, but also three stupendous, state of the art remixes on Black Hole Recordings‘ 300th release! What a milestone!

Armin van Buuren gave the track his trademark high energy trance treatment and delivered a perfect floor filler for the big rooms. Phunk Investigation stripped the original completely and comes up with a rough edged version, leaving the break almost untouched, perfect for the loud club nights, while the Whelan & Di Scala Remix focuses on a more pop drive version that may remind us a bit of the sound of the Killers, for instance. All in all a package with three super fat remixes for every professional DJ out there!

Sly One Vs Jurrane – Silicone Stars / Citizen [Discover]

Capping off a stellar year!
- Andre
9/10

img_861522375Sly One vs Jurrane finish the year off  “Discover” style with this superb two track E.P. release. This isn’t the first time these two have dressed the front pages of MusiCritics, and my love for their style goes back many years now. Over the last 18 months Sly One vs Jurrane have established themselves as one otf Discover’s most prolific artists hammering home their unique sound which incorporates the best elements of trance and techno with an edgy progressive twist.

This E.P.showcases them at their very best and delivers for both them and “Discover”, a perfect end to 2009.  Silicone Stars is a pumping trance production that incorporates their signature kicks and bassline into what I can only describe as Discover on ‘roids. Be sure to spend some time lusting over the breakdown, those vocal like pads are sublime! And who can argue over the emtionally packed strings…  On the B-Side we’ve got Citizen is darker and provides a more techno infused tribal beat to supplant the crisp high end.  Very unlike the A-Side, this track means business and wastes no extra effort in getting the job done.

Jochen Miller – Red One [High Contrast Recordings]

What does the Red One do?
- Andre
8/10

R-2021730-1259697378.jpegThe first time I discovered Jochen’s sound was back in 2005 with his stellar remix of Polarity by Silent Electra, and judging by the fact his first release was back in 2001, I can safely say I was a little late.  Regardless, since then, Jochen has gone on to become one of the fastest rising stars of the then, tech-trance scene, and he’s now established his spot in the techno infused world of trance and progressive.

This latest effort, on High Contrast Recordings, is a pounding club-ready beast that features plucked synths, rolling basslines and a lead that is so crisp you might cut yourself on it.  There’s even a bit of an Asian influence in the main melody, and it’s most apparent in the breakdown. On remix duties we’ve got another HCR staple, David Forbes, who’s sound has evolved greatly since his days of hard trance, but evolving is just what this bloke does best. David’s rework is deeper and darker than the Original Mix, allowing the windy-chime like synth melody to truly shine through the rest of the track. Both mixes mean business, and though tech-trance is typically synonymous with boring minimal tech trance, these two versions, though not entirely organic to the ear, stand out.

Ali Wilson – Boombox [In Charge]

This is no Shakedown!
- Andre
8/10

R-2021728-1259038639.jpeg

The first time I discovered this track I couldn’t wait for it to be released, and well, here I am today with an advanced copy of the release and what a release it is! Ali’s name is synonymous with trance that reeks of techno fused attitude.  This release speaks to that, and truly showcases this man’s versatility.

Boombox is a wild ride through trance, techno and electro; all fused together to create a melting pot of sounds that exemplified both the In Charge sound, and Ali’s Tekelec sound.  With a rolling bassline, big room synths a la Jochen Miller or Marcel Woods, this track is destined to become the winter’s club anthem.  On remix duties we have, surprise surprise, Jochen Miller! His version transforms the slightly slower Original Mix into a tribal, tech-trance monster.  This isn’t a typical Jochen remix, at least not one of his more recent remixes, and for that I am rather thankful!  Often times he keeps things on the slower side of things, but this time he lets the beast loose with this great rework!

Will Holland ft Line Froyset – Things That Happen [Enhanced Recordings]

A perfect balance of drive and patience
- Andre
8.5/10

31-8116_600

Will’s an Enhanced veteran, and his latest effort featuring Line Froyset is a sublime uplifter that redefines the term anodyne. Line’s singing career seems rather young, as this is her first trance effort to date, and this Norwegian vocalist is making waves, far reaching and calming waves.

Will’s previous efforts (including this gem in 2005) have all been of an extremely quality, and his sound’s been championed by some the world’s top jocks for the past 5 years.  Joining him on this sublime release are Temple One and Mystery Islands. Hailing from the UK and Finland respectively, these young producers add their signature sounds to the original, truly capping this release off!
