press-rel-sr32This is our 6th review of a Swordtail Records release, and after listening to it I’m pretty sure it has magical powers capable of extending the arrival of old man winter. This latest effort comes from Orelse, a name not often seen, unless you follow the Bonzai Music record labels.

Alongside Orelse on ‘Joyride’ is MJ Motta on remix duties, while Mosquit does the honors on ‘All My Dreams’.  Each of the 4 tracks is a snapshot of summery, lush progressive house that would whip just about anybody into a sensual dance frenzy.

Read on past the break for my take on each version, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your favorite of the pack!

The track kicks off with a very Tarantino-ish wind synth (imagine Ennio Morricone’s music in Kill Bill & Inglourious Basterds) and a funky groove that includes some great percussion work. Bring in a great vocal track that isn’t overdone, nor cheesy in any regards, and all of a sudden you’ve got a spanish infused groove with a sultry voice that beckons for a sweet mojito.

MJ takes the original spanish infused mix of Joyride and turns it into a deep house ditty that’s destined for a dark and smoke filled room. This remix is pure auditory sex.

With a rather celestial introduction, All My Dreams seems to be a little lighter than Joyride, and with some breakbeats in the intro, a rather unique sound to boot! The entire track is very easy on the ears and would be best categorized as ambient/chill out. Not exactly my cup of tea, but a nice departure from the rest of the release.

Getting back into the house realm, Mosquit delivers a torrid (within reason) and pounding house remix of All My Dreams. Unlike the previous tracks on this release, this track isn’t entirely house, and definitely not deep house.  This remix groove much closer to the tech house genre, with some progressive elements.  All in all, a slightly boring remix, but bonus points for its experimental elements.

The Verdict

I loved the first two track on this release, but the 2 versions of  All My Dreams just don’t sit well with me.  I sometimes forget just how much I love house and deep house music, but everytime I listen to a Swordtail release, I’m gently reminded why I do.  As for my favorite, I’m picking the Original Mix of Joyride.

Score: 7/10
