Big room, tech-infused riff lovers beware!

After a short stint of techy reviews last week it seems I’m diving right back into the progressive world. We first covered Temple One some months ago, and this latest effort showcases much of the same deep progressive skill that was apparent then. Temple One is a Trance producer from the UK, and at the tender age of 22 is slowly taking the progressive trance world by storm. After a successful release on Bagguley and Genix’s Trance Revolution Recodings, he’s had each of his releases plastered on the Enhanced labels.

This 3 track release includes a big room tech-infused riff in the original that is toned down slightly in the Barnes & Heatcliff remix.  As an added bonus we’ve got a third track, titled Escape, which has a more Balearic vibe, perfect to cap off a busy summer with!

Read on past the break for my take on each track, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote on your favorite!

The track kicks off with an offbeat kickdrum and high hat combination and without much notice deep pads and crisp percs are added to the mix until at the 60 second mark the track really starts to pick up steam. The first half of the track, though effective at gettings things moving, doesn’t have much in the form of memorable moments. As the track begins to wind down for the breakdown we start to sense something rather epic brewing within the track and once that ridiculously ‘big-room’ synth riff moves into sight it’s game over. What a monster of a riff, something that would be right at home in a late night (or is it early morning at that point?) Sander van Doorn set. As the track continues along it loses a bit of it’s in-your-face attitude and starts to slowly morph into a progressive number that would fit well into a Markus Schulz set. Big props for the genre bending abilities of this track, something that will go a long way in determining it’s longevity.

I’ve covered quite a few remixes by these two in the past, and though I’ve been disappointed with their apparent evolution into a more house friendly sound I’m finally starting to appreciate what their doing. (For the record, I’m not against Heatcliff returning to his ridiculous tech-trance style of production…plz…kthxbye). This remix starts off a little darker than the original, building anticipation early on and carrying a groovy and steady beat throughout the track.  With nearly no lulls it’s a great track to kick start a night into high gear, grabbing the listener’s attention and keeping it for the entirety of the track. Again, there’s a serious dose of Markus Schulz meets Sander van Doorn in this track, but unlike the original, this one has more attitude than does it good. A solid track that would definitely destroy a dancefloor thanks to it’s gritty big room sound and euphoric melody.

As I mentioned earlier this track has a Balearic vibe to it, something that I would certainly picture myself playing early on at a gig as the sunsets. From the get-go I’m reminded a funky/bubbly sound a-la Joonas Hahmo, a sound we don’t get to hear very often. Wasting no time we’re drawn into a deep breakdown that features well rounded piano melodies, lush pads, soft percs and a build-up that, sadly, delivers little in terms of emotion.  This track isn’t much about the destination as it is about the journey. The track carries the listener slowly and smoothly from section to section, truly allowing them to enjoy the voyage through a wonderful aural soundscape.

The Verdict

I’ve got to say one thing in regards to this label: Where do they keep finding such a high quality of productions, time and time again? It simply amazes me.  This is a fine example of a progressive trancer that evokes emotions, exhilarates and calms all in one fell swoop.  My favorite has to the the Original Mix of Betelgeuse.

Score: 7/10

[...] I recently covered Temple One’s highly successful Enhanced Progressive release ‘Betelgeuse‘ and much like that beauty this remix stands out for its uncanny ability to add a deep and emotional progressive vibe to a track that still manages to pump out tons of trance-y energy.  Do not miss the celestial melody and pads in the breakdown, an absolute must have!
