The most unique trance release this year!

9/10

l_3868a3a181a941b2bff05e856e219194Released exclusively on Beatport.com last month, the 3rd release for this imprint snags one of the hottest up and comers in the Trance scene today. We’ve covered Sean’s rather explosive ascent (7 releases in 2009!) into the scene and Ultra Violet continues his string of successful releases.

As his latest release, Ultra Violet includes two crazy remixes from Finity staple Astera, who’s last release was reviewed here, and Cesar Lugo, whom I discovered on one of the very first Stellar Sounds release. Both remixes are unique and truly help to round out this release.

My favorite release from Sean to date is still his only release under his S Klass alias, and as soon as I dropped this track I instantly felt taken back to when I had first heard his Final Round EP.  Dark and edgy from the get-go, this track packs punch after punch of jaw dropping builds and crashes. The same attention to detail you’ve come to appreciate from Sean is included, and don’t be surprised if you’re shocked at how well he keeps the euphoric melody/sound in check with his slightly darker approach this time around.  An absolute laser reaching gem.

Cesar’s sound is rather difficult to categorize.  With a healthy serving of trance, depth, psy-trance and progressive trance he creates a style that, in my opinion, has never been so properly executed before. The track doesn’t lose its marbles early on, or at any point for that matter.  It doesn’t fall asleep or cause me to lose my focus.  What it does do is seem to wrap the listener in a familiar blanket of elements that, on their own would sound eclectic at best, but manage to coagulate together to create a unique and eye opening piece of music. Deep and lush pads sweep throughout the track, carrying and dropping the listener as it meanders through deep soundscapes until finally climaxing in the breakdown to unleash waves of emotion so powerful that I can’t help but bounce around in my desk chair.

I discovered Astera while reviewing some material for Finity Recordings and to see him paired up with Sean is a treat for the ears. Astera’s sound is atypically more purist in style, and what he’s managed to combine between his sound and Sean’s is a lovely hybrid.  Without completely stripping away the raw attitude of the original, Astera adds his melodic and euphoric edge to the mix creating something that is perfect for a crowded roadtrip to your next big air festival!

The Verdict

Quite simply: The most unique trance release to date this year.  These three are champions, on their own, of the new trance sound, and combined together have managed to create three tracks that are decidedly different but feel as though they fit together perfectly to produce a powerful storyline.  My favorite has to be Cesar’s version!

Score: 9/10
