Oliver Brooks – One Night In Gaunt Street [Flux Delux]

Here’s the new kid on the block named Oliver Brooks. He is from London, UK and this is his debut release on UK label Flux Delux. Title track from the EP ‘One Night In Gaunt Street’ has just been featured in Manuel Le Saux’s latest mix compilation: Underground Anthems Vol.2., which I consider as one of the highlight of compilation. Oliver has that ‘Recover World Camp’ influence and one can easily identify from the first listen. This is a double-A sider and nothing short of trademark UK trance.
This EP consists of 2 tracks: ‘One Night In Gaunt Street’ and ‘The Bridge’. (The name is taken from a street in London, where MOS is situated.) Both are peak time uplifting trancers. Read more for individual reviews and some samples.

Oliver kicks things off with huge acid-like riff and a powerful bouncy bassline. There are no signs of any melody till the track reaches 2:30 minute mark, but when we hit the breakdown, synths begin to arise and form an absolutely smashing melody! It has that melancholic edge; it’s pure and completely original. Kick hits back hard and we are already flying…!! Awesome..!!
The Bridge (Original Mix):
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
This one is similar to the original in structure except early introduction of melody with deep synths taking charge. The introduction is totally driving and makes things clear for what to expect next. The breakdown lays down an amazing melody which is similar in nature of the first track, but the approach is different. An arpeggiated synth pattern fills the aural spectrum and presents us with much loved ‘big room’ sound. This one reaches the climax in a more traditional fashion, but packs immense amount of energy, which is unmatchable. Top stuff…!!
The Verdict:
What an amazing EP this is….!! After 5-6 listens, I still can’t decide which is my favourite, because both are absolutely storming pieces of no-nonsense trance. Oliver Brooks has delivered one hell of a debut record and is sure to look forward to in the near future. Kudos from MusiCritics…!!
9/10.
