TyDi is the new young trance sensation from Australia, while Dennis Shepard hails from Germany. Both of them are fairly new to the scene, but churning out some great records lately. TyDi has just released his debut album and Dennis Sheperd has released one of my favourite progressive tracks this year called ‘Black Sun’. They’ve collaborated for the first time and they are accompanied by the sweet voice of Marcie. Let’s take a look at what these two lads has to offer.

S107 recordings (sub-label of Armada) have grabbed this track, since this label is dedicated to vocal progressive trance. Package contains 3 tracks. Original is a sweet, laid-back progressive trance track, while on the remix duties we have Sebastian Brandt, who provides a remix and a dub.

The very cool progressive bassline is the first feature one will notice, as expected from a TyDi and Sheperd colab. Then at the breakdown Marcie’s vocals take over and track slides into a little breakbeat.  Some gentle plucks and guitar-like effects add to the atmosphere. A delicate melody appears for a short span of time and again we’re for a little grove. Marcie provides some gorgeous vocals here, which literally adds a new dimension to the track.

The moment I saw Sebastian Brandt’s name on the remix, I expected a full-on uplifting remix, which he is usually known for. But as the track rolled, I was pretty surprised hearing Seb going around 130bpm. The track starts with a heavy, perc infused bassline, which instantly sucks you in. Vocals are introduced relatively early. The main hook line is slightly altered from the original, which is pretty simple 4-chord melody, accompanied by some great synthwork in the background. Remaining uplifting throughout, It’s a nice change to the usual uplifting trance tracks.

Exactly same as original, but minus the vocals.

The Verdict

Some great stuff by rising stars. Original is a very good progressive track with Marcie at top of her game.. But Sebastian Brandt’s interpretation takes the track to new heights. 8/10 !
