8-4978_600Originally released last year on Enhanced Recordings, the “Awakening EP” proved to be a massive success. Not only had the EP gained support from the likes of Tiesto, Sean Tyas and Andy Moor, each track managed to land on a number of compilations including Sean Tyas’ Tytanium, Digitally Enhanced Vol 2 and Matt Hardwick & Kane Nelson’s Digital Society Vol 1.

The EP resurfaces on Red Force Recordings as a two-part release, the first of which features “Awakening” and its remixes, of which I reviewed here.

Shortly following part one, the second part of the “Awakening Remixes EP” is here. Part two features melodic hands-in-the-air remixes of all three tracks from Fast Distance, Sunny LAX and LavKastor, all of whom have been getting some well-deserved attention lately. I’ll be reviewing these, and I’ve included some high quality samples and a poll for you to vote for your fav! Read on…

After having covered the gamut of remixes in my last review, I am having a rather hard time picking out exactly what’s changed in this version.  Don’t get me wrong, this version still rocks, the euphoric edge and plucky synths used are laser reaching bliss.  Not to mention a rather interesting sound sample in the midsection, can anyone pinpoint it’s origin?  If you’re looking for excellently produced standard trance with very little innovation, this is just what you want.  Dunno, I might be a bit jaded at this point, but I think I’ve heard enough remixes of this originally marvelous track.

Franz is no stranger to quality trance, what with countless releases on Alter Ego, Mondo Digital, Nu-Depth, Factual and many, many others. With a typically euphoric and melodic vibe, this latest remix is no different from his usual sound.  Lush and delicate, the track ebbs and flows effortlessly, gently carrying the listener through a soft maze of sensory stimuli. If that isn’t deep enough, I don’t know what is…

Deeper and a little on the grungy side of euphoric trance, Sunny’s sound is as unique as is name is.  After bursting onto the scene on Anjunabeats with P.U.M.A./Cassiopeia in 2005, he literally hasn’t looked back. Epic builds, taut synths, lush pads and clear hi hats abound in this remix.  Knowing the Anjuna sound quite well, it’s rather apparent to me why he’s now had 3 releases on the imprint, and this remix would fit just as well as the others.  This young and talented producer rounds his productions off with such class that I simply cannot describe it.  Have a listen for yourself.

Yet another young producer from Poland, LavKastor, Patryk to some, is starting to make his name known around the progressive trance scene. Adding a completely unique sound to this release, this version is a complete departure from the other mixes.  Deep and light hearted, this progressive number seems to combine quite a few sounds that are typically used to achieve a big room sound. Tech elements and electro elements interact playfully as the melody slowly unveils itself. I would imagine this in the midst of an Ibizan set from trance master Armin van Buuren, or at the end of a DJ Shah set as the sun sets.

The Verdict

Though I felt the rework of ‘Awakening‘ was a little too late, the rest of the release was stellar.  With lush pads, and a truly euphoric vibe from Fast Distance and Sunny Lax, there was truly enough variety to warrant each mix’s inclusion.  LavKastor also showcased a rather unique progressive trancer that surely shows promise for this young polish producer.

As for my favorite? I’m going with Fast Distance’s marvelous euphoric remix.

Score: 8/10
