Estigma – Blue Rain [Neuroscience]
Neuroscience Recordings has been in the radar for quite some time, indeed I am pretty hooked on the Neuroscience Deep sublabel (Native – Choices in the Artificial Dreamer Remix, anyone?
). Estigma has made his way into the production scene just last year, with releases on Shah Music, and Istmo. Blue Rain appears to be his initiation on Neuroscience, and he is backed by Discover mainstay Manuel Le Saux, as well as Neuroscience sophmore Dallaz Project. This one promises to be driving, so hold on to your hat!

No time is wasted here; we have driving synths right from the get-go, but with nine minutes on the clock you cannot help but wonder what the rush is
. What it looks like, is that each layer is being offered the opportunity to have a little spotlight, fine by me! Build build build! The break introduces an uplifting supersaw riff, overshadowed by the plink of a piano, and a driving rhythm synth that is quickly undercut when the riff filters in. We build back in, and shift gears back into stomp mode, and begin preparations for another break, by means of layering back up into where we began. There’s the break, giving us another taste of the piano, and off we run into transition mode.

Slow it down! The Project attempts to cool the jets, by taking it down a notch, and to build from scratch in the traditional kick and perc startup. Of course this allows for some great opportunities to show off your soundcrafting, and we are treated to a twinge of acid, and big stabs, before a riff drops in. The piano gets introduced pre-break, and upon reaching the break we are offered some sweeps, pads and all that jazz, before the melody slides in, this time programmed as something less in-your-face, and more cold and composed. The build is subtle, and contrasting to the energy that results…I’ll admit I did not like this remix at first, but it has grown on me!

The biggest name, but will he have the biggest (and best) mix? Manuel also takes the from-scratch approach, throwing down gradually, layer by layer. It does not look like he wants to waste time, and has the shortest mix of the three, as a matter of fact. Manuel offers up a variant of the original melody, cutting it in such a way that he can reset it and use that effect to build, which he does with gusto. The piano has also been ditched in favor of that driving sound. Maybe it’s just me, but this remix sounds a bit standard…But then again I’m not really too keen on the so-called “Discover sound,” unless it’s Discover Dark, which has been kicking my ass! But I digress.
Solid trance, but a little standard…But I tend to reach for the different, progressive sound, as opposed to the driving. If you like the driving sound, this will float your boat, and drive it too! I did like the Dallaz Project Remix, after giving it a second chance, and that remains my pick. 7/10!
