The House Moguls – 2 Track Sampler [Funktion Recordings]

I literally tripped on these while scouring the internet for new talent, and talent I have found! The boys behind the label have done an amazing job at recruiting new talent, and with their stellar roster, have been consistently landing their tracks on top jocks’ playlists.

The two tracks I decided to highlight are two remixes that The House Moguls have produced, both floating somewhere in the tech/prog house realm with some sexy vocal tracks. The tracks in question are Another Day by Sophia May and Just a Feeling by Carl Kennedy & Johnny Gleason.

Sophia May – Another Day (The House Moguls Remix)

The track kicks off with a tinge of acid in the first riff and what appears to be Sophia’s voice in the distance. The track takes it sweet time to develop, adding a layer at a time until removing nearly everything and then exploding overtop Sophia’s voice at the 1:15 mark.  At this point we’re firmly in dubbed out tech house land, but as the clap and snare arrive I’m starting to feel a groove develop that’s reminiscent of older house productions. And BAM, at 2:45 I’m thrown back to the old days of acid techno/trance, and the riff is paired up perfectly with her voice. Groovy, Funky, Summery, Fun and Infectious: ways to describe the track’s energy. This is the perfect thing for a backed boat cruise, or lethargic patio party. Love it!

Carl Kennedy & Johnny Gleason – Just a Feeling (The House Moguls Remix)

This track takes a slightly different approach to getting you moving.  Unlike the deeply infectious and groovy remix of Another Day, this one lulls you into a hypnotic trance and pulls you along.  It almost feels as effortless as those old music makers with the tab and the notches to create the simple musical tones….I feel like I’m that tab, simply reacting instinctively to the beat.  The groove is so effortless and the vocal track is pure housey goodness. I suppose this is how good music should feel, but it rarely does.

The Verdict

Well, these boys have far surpassed any of my expectations and they’ve permanently been added to my ‘To-Watch’ list for here on in!  Be sure to check the samples above out, and stop by their sites to stay in touch!
