The weekend’s now come and gone, and monday brings along yet another long week of work. Sigh.
If you’re feeling just as blue as I am you’ll definitely want to take a minute or two and give this release a listen. Hot off a stellar ASOT showing with A.M.R. ‘Sand Dunes’, Enhanced Progressive return this time around with progressive master Anhken. After an amazingly hot 2008 (with nearly 12 separate releases on Anjuna, Monster Deep, etc…), this third release of the new year proves that this Romanian born producer is at the forefront for all things progressive and trance.

The track kicks with a groovy little number that slowly adds layers until we’re past the 60 second mark and realize our entire body is grooving along. This is one of the better intros in a song I’ve heard recently! The track instroduces some exciting synths early on, but these are quickly placed in the background to make room for a breathtaking piano melody. Pure sex. The track slowly fades out to sweep in the breakdown; a breakdown that is both emotionally powerful and thoughtful from start to end. I’m not ecstatic, nor am I excited….but I can say beyond a shadow of doubt that I am energized and euphoric as it progresses.

If I’m reading into the track titles I’d have to guess that this little ditty will showcase a more evolved and complex sound compared to the A side. The track starts off relatively un-announced but once you crest the 70 second mark you’re grooving along to the tech infused funky bassline and melody. As it moves along it strikes me. This reminds me a lot of a progressively tuned version of some very old techno I had once fallen in love with. Anhken’s managed to combine a very hypnotic techno sound with a breathtaking progressive edge that pushes all electronic music boundaries. What’s more, the breakdown is like nothing I’ve heard before! It’s simple, effective and utterly unique! Club friendly? Without a doubt!
The Verdict
Both tracks on this release provide very different sounds, but each seem to be bound by some unspoken bond. The A side will certainly suit the trance purists, and the B side will please the clubbers and DJs on a level that will certain heighten their nights out. As for my favorite? I’m going with ‘Simplify’.
