Child label of Enhanced Music Limited, Enhanced Progressive have been churning out quality progressive trance since 2005, when they saw their first release feature Binary Finary and Jose Amnesia. Since then, I’ve purchased well over 6 of their releases (I had no idea!) and here I am today reviewing their forthcoming offering, ‘Vanilla Sky EP‘ by Arty. (Currently in pre-release on Beatport.com)
Arty’s a newcomer, as he’s seen his first release earlier in the year on Red-Silver Online-Digital. This 3 track EP is lush and absolutely mind melting. A few months ago I mentioned that I felt progressive trance was making a proper resurgence, and now months later, I can confidently announce it is in fact back in style. There seems to be a new breed of producers at the forefront of the progressive trance revival, and whatever it is they’re doing, they should just keep on doing it!

The track has a driving bassline that’s accompanied by a whipping kick drum. Add some crisp snare, hit hat and random percussion and you’ve got a classy track that grooves and moves along with little effort. The simple yet effective melody is catchy beyond belief. Add a sultry and calming breakdown before the epic crash, carry on with tons of energy and you’ve got a clear winner in Vanilla Sky.

Deep and groovy quickly come to mind within the first minute. The track, much like the previous, has a ridiculously well crafted and effective melody that makes it stand out like no other track I’ve heard in recent history. And I’ve heard plenty of great tracks lately! The breakdown concentrates squarely on developing the melody, and I have no qualms with that! Slightly shorter than the previous track, this one goes in the same general direction, but it does so on the deeper end of the scale. Another amazing track! Wowza, that sweeping crash after the breakdown is pure orgasm.

Faster in tempo and with a more tribal edge to it (must be the slight breakbeat in the intro…), this track is decidedly different from it’s predecessors and I’m curious to see where it goes. The track is definitely deeper and darker, and even though it’s got what seems like a faster tempo, it’s energy levels simply don’t compare. A well crafted track nonetheless, but at times a little too simple to keep entirely focused on it.
What an amazing release! Following in the footsteps of many other fine producers, Arty proves that he belongs on such a storied label! My pick of the litter is surprisingly tough to call, but I suppose I’ll have to pick Vanilla Sky, with Inside Out Love a very close second.
