This review sees the debut of one Sean Truby, who up until now has been hitting hard on the remix front. Entitled Unreal, we see a pretty formidable remix lineup in Activa, Simon Bostock, and Luke Terry, all of which have smashing capabilities. Enough of that though, dive in!

Unreal (Original Mix)

The original brings us the wolp of acid and the plink of piano, for a slightly gritty, but uplifting track. The layering is subtle and with a driving bit of rhythm synth and drum roll we hit our break, bringing that piano to the fore, and well, frankly the build and progression become a bit standard, but it is a great first effort nonetheless. The acidic beginning and end were my favorite :P

Unreal (Activa Remix)

Activa brings a little more pump to the table, retaining the acid of the original and backing it with some stabs and drive. The break keeps the energy going, with never-ceasing synth stabs, adopting a full  warm sound, but, as with the original, doing nothing amazing, but making for a solid trance track.

From the get-go, though, there is something different about his take; glitchy percussion and slower tempo…But something else…We will see, I suppose. Simon, as I suspected, keeps the acid along for the ride, as his track record would indicate. After a short break, a lead flutters in…A bit weak, at first, but then…It evolves into something that I do believe I should refer to as kick-ass! It has an air akin to that of ye olde Street Fighter games. It goes away for a few phrases, while the track strips down to break, and then it comes back…Good show! Less drive, more punch…Or maybe Hadouken. Don’t judge me. (I’m actually not much of a fighter game fan, that’s my best friend’s choice, so yeah :P )

Unreal (Luke Terry Remix)

Luke Terry offers up another driving take, bringing in a slightly old-school vibe. To be succinct, the build is more prominent, and the track is solid. It does pump better than the original and rings in as a good trancer, but again, as with the original, it does not really jump out and completely impress me.

Good collection of trance here, but nothing too amazing…With the exception of the Simon Bostock remix, that I think takes it to an Unreal level (Shut up, in advance!), overall the release gets a 8/10, with my obvious pick being the Simon Bostock remix; it does drag a bit, admittedly, but the listeners are rewarded! Cheers, Simon!

    Andre said,

As for me, I didn’t like Simon’s take….something the melody just rubbed me the wrong way. My pick is definitely the Original Mix. Top notch!
