Atem Niblz – Niblz EP [Swordtail Records]
This is Atem Niblz‘ 2nd release in 2009, and much like my previous review, he’s another young russian trance/progressive DJ & Producer. Having seen his first release land on the Crystal Clouds Recordings imprint, this time around he’s landed on the very selective Swordtail Records label.
This release includes 3 tracks, the first two being of a progressive trance inclination, while the last ventures into unknown territories. All together, the three combine to create the Niblz EP, a rather cute name for an EP.
Read on for my full take on the release, some high quality samples and for your chance to tell us which track you loved the most!

This track, with it’s heavily filtered cymbal crash at the start and pulsing sidechained bassline (is it?), is an absolute stunner that comes out of left field to blow you away. It’s melodic. It’s euphoric. It’s filthy. It’s clubby. It is, quite literally, everything trance should be. Without placing too much emphasis on a single sound, Atem has created a track that picks all the best qualities out of today’s club music and created a solid floor stomper! I know I’ll be playlisting this beauty, not a single sould will be able to resist it.

This little gem has a wonderful atmosphere to it. If a track could actually process thought, you would certainly think this one can. It’s deep and pensive broody mood it sets from the start carries throughout the track. Don’t be fooled however, this is no sleeper! Everything is well balanced in the stereo space, and the use of mini builds throughout the track provides much needed variation and energy jerks. This is exceptionally well done progressive trance, but don’t expect it to bite you instantly, it’s a grower!

Getting near the end of the EP now, and it’s getting quite apparent that Atem has slowly, but surely, been descending into a dark dark pit. The track is hard to place, but I would say it’s a cross between tech-house progressive trance and a nintendo gaming system. Have a listen, you’ll see why!
Overall, though I know Swordtail Records consistently outdoes itself in the quality department, I truly wasn’t expecting something so refreshing. Each track is unique in many respects, and the clarity in sound that each possesses is superb. As for my favorite? Hands down, no questions asked: Cheery Ghost!
Score: 8/10
