r-1748352-1240949905jpegLet’s go back a few years, to a simple time, when love was simple and I discovered Dave’s sound through his amazing remix of Dr Willis’ “Here Come the Drums“.  I’d love to say I’m still head over heels for Dave’s sound nowadays, but like most loves, or lusts, the initial high has worn off, and today I find myself comfortably satisfied with his new and evolving sound.

This latest release, featured on the Black Hole Recordings sublabel, In Trance We Trust, is titled ‘These Days’ and features Cor Fijneman on remix duties. This release is dark and void of nearly all emotion, but it certainly makes up with attitude.  The track still reeks of Dave’s sound, but it’s hard not to notice his parallels to the new age club trance.

Read on for my take on the two versions, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your favorite!

The track is quickly characterized by glitchy elements and Dave’s penchant for techno elements shines through immediately. It isn’t until the 60 second mark that the track dives deep and we’re treated to Dave’s deep bassline, punctuated only every so often by some well placed percussions, pads and a beefy kick. There isn’t much as far as atmosphere is concerned, but judging by the overall sound, that wasn’t Dave’s intent. The track’s breakdown is ear wrenching at times, but it certainly catches my attention, and what happens after the break is rather strange.  Instead of taking the track to a new level, as he certainly has done in the past, it remains sort of mellow (within reason) and gets rather groovy and bouncy.  All in all, a lovely effort by this Polish producer, and it’s clearly evident that he’s incorporating new elements into his sound.

It’s not often we get around to reviewing Cor’s work, though earlier this month I reviewed this beauty.  I’ll take what I can get though…

The track kicks off with a very different vibe.  It’s actually rather hard for me to characterize it.  It’s definitely trance, with some techy elements, but it has a very groovy and deep progressive vibe to it. This is a rather perfect complement to the original mix, as it manages to highlight a slightly happier and melodic side and creates a wonderful atmosphere at the same time.  Don’t be fooled though, this isn’t your standard sappy trance, it has emotion but its more than worthy of destroying a dance floor just before peak time.

Score: 8/10
