Beat Service vs Solex – Nothing Less [RealMusic]

Behind alias ’Beat Service’ is young Estonian Madis Sillamo. Joining Madis on this latest RealMusic production is Solex, who’s seen a release on Deepblue in 2007. Madis has teamed up in the past under the guise of Polymental, and their remix of Vengeance by Mark Sherry was my first encounter with their unique and energizing sound.
This release is fully trance at heart, and though Madis has rocked it in the past, that signature tech edge is mysteriously missing in this release. Is it Solex influencing the overall outcome? Or are the duo simply showing their that their strength is broad. Regardless, the Original and Beat Service Tech Mix are both standout tracks and I’ll be surprised if it isn’t picked up by top jocks this summer.

The track kicks off as most intro type trancers do, a soft melody with lush pads and synths in the background. The track picks up speed quickly, something I’d have rather not had happen. The deep melody was rather endearing and I felt it wasn’t explored long enough, though it certainly was a tease that hooked me. The track carries on at this stage with a Discover/Armada type trance sound. The track weighs in a little heavy at 9 minutes, not a usual length for trance tracks, but what it does allow the artists to do is properly develop the piano based melody in the breakdown. Is it me or are more and more producers using piano based melodies lately? I’m not complaining,

Having already purchased many a Beat Service tracks, I had very high hopes for this remix. His previous efforts are typically very hard, with low rumbling tech basslines that fuck with your ears. However, this Tech Mix, though well crafted and danceable, just doesn’t compare to his usual sound. This remix is definitely harder than the original, and there are elements within it that parallel directly with Madis’ previous work. The kick he’s using is ridiculously well crafted, it’s thumpy and crisp at the same time. Adding a new level to the track is the use of filters as transitions between phrases. Unlike the original, this remix is a more respectable 7 minutes long and the breakdown’s been completely reworked to showcase a synth based melody (gone is the piano) and it’s done wonders for the energy levels.
I usually end up choosing a favorite, and there’s always a winner, but this time around, I’m having a hard time choosing. I’ll go with the Tech Mix, simply because it’s my preferred sound, but the Original is great in it’s own respect as well.
Score: 7/10
