When it comes to new labels, few can claim to have made the same impact as Matt Hardwick’s imprint “Kill the Lights”. Since it was launched late last year with Matt’s “Supernal” featuring the ethereal vocals of Melinda Gareh, to critical acclaim, the label has delivered release after release of pure quality.

Featured artists and remixes have included Askew, Activa, Duderstadt and Senadee and as we reach the fifth release, it is back to Matt to deliver another quality single to add to the collection. Matt brings together two of his favourite influences with this one as he seamlessly merges the best elements of both progressive and trance to devastating effect.

To add to the package, Ben Gold turns in one of his best remixes to date. And finally, Niklas Grosswald finishes off the release with a remix that shows that he can cut it with the best of them and is very clearly one to watch!!

Read on for high quality samples and my breakdown of each track.  As always, be sure to vote for your favorite.

Dave Schiemann – These Days [In Trance We Trust]

Posted by Andre on April 29 under Releases | Be the First to Comment | 51 views

r-1748352-1240949905jpegLet’s go back a few years, to a simple time, when love was simple and I discovered Dave’s sound through his amazing remix of Dr Willis’ “Here Come the Drums“.  I’d love to say I’m still head over heels for Dave’s sound nowadays, but like most loves, or lusts, the initial high has worn off, and today I find myself comfortably satisfied with his new and evolving sound.

This latest release, featured on the Black Hole Recordings sublabel, In Trance We Trust, is titled ‘These Days’ and features Cor Fijneman on remix duties. This release is dark and void of nearly all emotion, but it certainly makes up with attitude.  The track still reeks of Dave’s sound, but it’s hard not to notice his parallels to the new age club trance.

Read on for my take on the two versions, some high quality samples and for your chance to vote for your favorite!

Damn you again Deadmau5

Posted by Andre on April 28 under Tracks | 2 Comments to Read | 22 views

Seriously, the guy simply can’t be stopped.  I usually try and stay away from his sound, and for the most part, it isn’t entirely my style, luckily.  But this latest gem he’s releasing with Kaskade titled ‘I Remember’ is simply catchy beyond belief.

Hands down, a summer anthem, and I’ll make sure to do my part.  Check out the video below, it’s Part I of lord knows how many, and if my eyes aren’t tricking me, he makes an appearance in the video.

Carl B vs JPL – Orchid Blossom [In Trance We Trust]

With well over a dozen releases in 2008 between the two, Carl and Joni have been busy refining their sound and this latest collaboration between these Swedish producers has been getting rave reviews.  After a lengthy promo period, during which the track was aired on ‘ASOT’ and ‘Club Life’, by Armin and Tiesto respectively, the ‘This Mix’ and ‘That Mix’ were released last April 20th, but a week ago.

The two mixes, though very similar in style, are a well crafted snapshot of what’s currently hot in clubs.  By mixing the typical trance sound with some techno and progressive trance elements, the boys have created something that is unique and certainly deserves a few listens….or more!

Read on for high quality samples and find out how I manage to sum these up in a sentence…or less.

Richard and Moore – Nevada [Intuition Deep]

intudeepfancehFresh out of the doors of the Intuition camp, more specifically from the Intuition Deep sublabel, this one is a single track from Richard and Moore, who appear to actually be none other than Cliff Coenraad and Thomas Hagenbeek. These two have been doing various remixes together, and put out the track Filthy Ripper last year on Marco V’s In Charge imprint. Pretty much all I’ve got to say! Read on for samples and the review.

It’s been nearly a year since we covered a release dedicated to Daniel (but he’s all over our site), and this latest on Black Hole Recordings is a club monster. Black Hole’s been busy recruiting and honing the skills of some amazingly talented youngsters…Sagstad, van Riel, Topher Jones, and now Daniel.

Hailing from the flatlands of Dordrecht, Southern Holland, Daniel Wanrooy has been influencing the playlists of some of the world’s top DJs for over 6 years. Both as one half of highly-lauded duos Progression & Odyssee and as a standalone artist, his evocative, imaginative music has successfully cross-bred virtually every sub-genre of trance.

This release features two tracks, ‘Damage’, which pushes the envelope as far as progressive trance could ever go, and ‘City Nights’ which is a gritty trancer that features some head rocking acid and minimal elements! Read on to hear some high quality samples and to vote for your favorite!

Moby shows his love with a Free Track!

Posted by Andre on April 26 under Downloads, Tracks | Read the First Comment | 118 views

moby_with_gunWhen asked about his latest album, the man himself had this to say:

“i recorded the album here in my studio on the lower east side(although ’studio’ always seems like an overly grand word for a bunch of equipment set up in a small bedroom). in the past i’ve worked in large and small studios, but for this record i wanted to record everything at home by myself.

i have some friends/guests singing on the record. they’re great singers, but unless you live in fort greene or washington heights you might not know about them, as they’re relatively unknown(because i’ve found that working with friends is almost always nicer than working with rockstars).

i started working on the album about a year ago, and the creative impetus behind the record was hearing a david lynch speech at bafta, in the uk.

david was talking about creativity, and to paraphrase, about how creativity in and of itself, and without market pressures, is fine and good.

it seems as if too often an artists or musicians or writers creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, and how much market share it commands and how much money it generates.

in making this record i wanted to focus on making something that i loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. as a result it’s a quieter and more melodic and more mournful and more personal record than some of the records i’ve made in the past.

it’s also, for better or worse, all homemade, in that i recorded it at home with my friends and drew the artwork with a black sharpie on copy paper.

the first single(if you can call an instrumental with no vocals that we’re giving away for free a ’single’)is called ’shot in the back of the head’, and i’m happy to announce that david lynch has done the video for it. i sent him the music and said, ‘please do whatever you want’. so he sat down and drew some animation that is very dark and beautiful. david lynch is my favorite film director, and i’m really happy to have him as the first video director on ‘wait for me’.

here’s the link to video on pitchfork:

ok, that’s it.”

Tracklisting and a free download of his ‘Shot in the back of the head” are after the jump!

Release Cover for Reflex/Lost Odyssey

Manuel Le Saux returns with an excellent follow up to his Waterfall/Season EP last Summer.

Both of these tracks will appear on his forthcoming “Underground Anthems 2″ album which will be released in May, whilst “Reflex” originally surfaced with a reworked intro version by Activa on his recent “Live As” album.

This is melodic trance at its very best, perfect for peak time sets and just like his previous EP, this looks set to further cement Manuel’s position as one of trances hottest properties at this time! Re:Locate and Mark Sixma – Piranha [2 Play]

Posted by Aaron on April 23 under Releases | 4 Comments to Read | 89 views

r-1736102-1240060161This one is another preview of things to come from the Spinnin’ family of labels. Right now we’ve got a collaboration between Re:Locate, who co-founded the mighty Intuition label, and Mark Sixma,  who has been smashing the floors worldwide as himself, and his ever-so-slightly weathered M6 guise. We’ve got two tracks here, an original (of course!) and a Heatbeat mix, which I do believe is the very same Heatbeat behind Vergatron. Correct me if I’m wrong (Cause I have been lately :P )! Dive in.

Samples and poll are now added!
