I’ve always had respect for D:Fuse’s work, but until having heard his latest artist album, I severely underestimated his versatilily and raw skill.

His new album, affectionately dubbed ‘Thanks for listening’, features 10 years of his signature funky progressive productions, all reworked, engineered and remastered by the man himself together with production partner Mike Hiratzka. He’s collaborated with many artists over the years, and this is clearly visible on this album, showcasing collabs with The Scumfrog, Jes and Grammy winner Bill Hamel.

Read on past the break to get the low down on this well crafted progressive house album that features some sultry vocals and makes good use of tribal drums.  I just couldn’t help but picture myself in a darkened and sweaty club while listening to ‘Thanks for listening’.

D:Fuse – ‘Thanks for Listening’ Album

I: The Parts

I’d first like to cover the individual tracks found on the album, and discuss what stood out for me. Having only discovered Dustin in early 2005, through Matthew Dekay’s remixes of ‘Living the Dream’, many of the tracks on this album were new to me, but I could certainly sense a certain aging to each.

Having chosen to collaborate with many artists on this album, D:Fuse chose to perform two tracks with Jes, of Motorcycle fame, and both are poignants moments in the album.  The very first track, ‘Everything With You’ is a real slice of balearic heaven, something I’d picture on one of Tiesto’s early ISOS compilations. He also included a newly revamped remix of ‘Living the Dream’, which will forever be one of my all time favorite progressive vocal tracks.

‘She Rides’ follows up ‘Everything With You’ perfectly, continuing the balearic vibe but adding club friendly elements to the mix, creating a dark and sultry sound.  Adding to his collaborations, he’s included ‘Stereo + Video’ which features Scumfrog, together providing a dark and hypnotic vibe.

We then progress into some deep progressive trance, or house (depends which side you’re coming from) as we listen to ‘Deep Architecture’,  ‘Be Free’ and ‘Zurich 6AM’.

II: The Sum

From start to finish, this album strikes hard and forces you to remember key points. Dustin clearly had a vision when he set out to layout this album: to create a journey that begins on the sunlit patio and which eventually moves into a dark and sexy atmosphere, not unlike an ibizan club.

The parts of the album are a treat, but toss them all together and you’ve got a wonderful story told by a talented narrator.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys deep progressive trance that makes good use of vocals to highlight old memories!
