Pole Folder makes his debut on Frisky Records on April 15th with ‘Destinations’; An 80 minute journey through progressive house which takes shape with every track that Pole unveils. As a title for this CD, Destinations works on a number of levels. The most obvious connection being that Destinations is the name of Pole Folder’s own radio show which airs only on friskyRadio every second Thursday of each month. The title also reflects how much Pole Folder has experienced as both a DJ and electronic music fan in many destinations around the world.
The last time we heard Pole Folder on CD, it was in the role of a producer. His debut artist album Zero Gold was released in 2005 on John Digweed’s Bedrock label and it garnered acclaim with journalists and fans alike. Fast forward almost three years later and Destinations provides a vehicle for Pole Folder to showcase his skills as DJ for the first time ever on CD.
Crafted much like his radio show of the same name, Destinations offers a true and up to the minute representation of the global progressive house scene. Given complete artist control over the project, Pole Folder pairs his own “Eastern Lagoon” with tracks from the likes of Leon Bolier, Kevin Yost, Andy Moor & Michael Wilson, Henry Cullen, Deep Mariano, DJ Yellow & Astrid Suryante, Spektre and Tiger Stripes, among others.
Having never discovered this artist in the past, let alone the label, I was, needless to say, intrigued when this arrived at my doorstep! After a bit of googling, I discovered there was a very valid reason why I had never heard of this artist: Seems David A is an alias, and actually stands for David Attenborough, host of ‘The Planet Earth’ on the BBC. You may not know the name, but the voice sure is familiar!
Regardless, at this stage, I still know nothing about the artist behind this alias or the label releasing the 2 track digital release: Android. At any point, both tracks on the release are delightful dark and proggy trance, with the A side being more moody and techy, with the B side, Hollow, showcasing that melodies can bring a track to life.
What a quarter this has been! with so many quality releases being released, it kind of makes me feel sad not being able to review them all. But I had to use some of the time I didn’t have to write about this particular release, because in my view, with exception of “Pereira” this release kicks all Moonrising Releases asses, yes, even my beloved past favorite Ayamonte” which was released last year by Moon NRG.
You want to know why I’m so excited about this release?, you want to know why at least on the mixes might end up in my top 20 of 2008? Well read on to find out…
Amplified Digital is a young label, now in it’s 8th digital release, they’ve provided some fresh trance and techno, but usually heavy on the dark and dirty tech that many of us have learned to love. This latest release comes from Evol Waves, who’s been signed to Armada/Coldharbour, and presents some tasty techno with just enough gusto to tear a floor apart.
With three tight tracks on the release, each track exploring a slightly different area in techno, this release is sure to please many ears. If you’re looking for a trancier take on techno, be sure to check out ‘Back for Good’.

Eddie Sender is no new name in the scene, counting with releases under his magic hat such as “Origin” [Well Mixed Records], “Aum Gasana” [Wilch Child Records] and “One day in Moscow” [KYR Records], he has proved everyone right and wrong with quality productions, one after another one.
He has remixed for the likes of Elsa Hill, Factoria and Mr. Pit, and now he brings to our tables “Genesis” [Inspired Records], a tune that proves to rock your world.
If you are not already familiar with the artist, Atlanta-based Chris Brann is the mastermind behind the Ananda Project, Wamdue Project and P’Taah. Brann is known for the 1997 Wamdue Project hit “King of My Castle”, which sold two million copies worldwide and is the best-selling single ever for the Strictly Rhythm label, as well as reaching #1 in the UK Singles Chart.
“Night Blossom’s” CD1 features reworks from Ananda project’s last artist album “Fire Flower” from Jay-J, Pasta Boys, Kevin Hedge of Blaze, Joe Claussell and UK remix duo Idjut Boys. A second bonus CD of Ananda Project classics is continuously mixed by Brann. Remixes here come from King Britt, Rurals, Aquanote and Kyoto Jazz Massive, among others.
I finally got the chance to set aside some time to cover these two CDs and needless to say I was not disappointed. The first album carries through some of the tastiest deep house I’ve heard in recent times and the second album provides a smooth 60 minute mix that manages to move you.
