On May 6, producer/DJ/multi-instrumentalist Dennis White (AKA Static Revenger) unveils his latest project Love Song Surprise. Co-produced by Supreme Beings of Leisure’s Ramin Sakurai and co-written by 2007 BBC world music award nominee Duke Mushroom (Bole 2 Harlem), Love Song Surprise is an electronic based record filled with skilful song writing/production and pure emotion.

Let’s be honest, many of us have probably never heard of Dennis prior to this album, and I certainly had not as well. Having been sent a copy a few weeks ago, this album has quickly found its way in our CD Player, at home and in the car, and hasn’t left since. It’s quickly become my album of the year, though the year is still young, I am fairly confident this album should outlast the year!

With skillful instrumental work, taking from electronica and indie rock roots, the album oozes of emotions, from the downtempo and mellowed out opener ‘So High’ all the way to the slightly dancier ‘I Feel Love’.

Read on to find out why you simply cannot pass on this album, and we’ve even included two tasty free downloads from the album!

Review

The very first track, ‘I Feel Love’, uses luscious synth pads to introduce a slightly raspy and vox’ed voice.  You quickly discover that Dennis’ vocals are soft and powerful all at once, a perfect balance for the electronica influenced sounds he’s created.

Into ‘Sweetest Day’ you realize the uncanny similarity of his voice and David Bowie’s.  Deep and raw, the song truly tugs at the heart with poignant and powerful lyrics.

‘Don’t Give Up’ is by far the most emotionally liberating song on the album.  Upon hearing it you just can’t help want to stand up, dance and sing at the top of your lungs.  It’s by far my favorite song on the album, and for good reasons….. ;)

Heavy on the electric guitar, Dennis shows that the two styles can be melted together to create wonderfully emotive songs in his ‘No.1 Fan’. Another slightly more upbeat song, but the drawn out vocals rip out any comforting emotion, making the listener realize that sometimes appearances don’t tell the whole story…

From here the album continues to weave from electronica, downtempo and guitar inspired riffs, creating an amazingly powerful and emotional voyage for the listener.  Closing off the entire album is the hauntingly powerful, and minimal, track ‘Beautiful’.  Singular vocals have never sounded so good while being so simple…

As mentioned earlier, the album is released on May 6th 2008.

If you’ve made it this far, here’s a little treat for you!  Dennis has decided to make two of the songs from the album available for free download!  Grab it before the madman comes to!
