Carl Cox – Global (2007) [2XCD+DVD]

Having recently fallen stumbled into love with Carl Cox’s music style, I simply couldn’t pass by the chance to review his latest mix compilation, Global, which included a 70 Minute DVD and 2 CD Mix compilation.  It was definitely serendipitous as I just happened to spot the CD tucked away in a record store’s Rap Section.  Don’t ask what I was even doing looking at the rap section, please…

Anyways, Carl took a very different approach to his latest ‘Global’ iteration (hey Carl, how about a name change, lessen the confusion, eh?), slowly building up a nice and funky groove in the second CD and then unleashing bomb after bomb on the second CD.  The entire album exubes class, style and finesse…Most definitely a Must Buy for any self respecting Techno fan!

Gabriel Batz & Nick Pilon – Moments Magiques EP

Posted by Andre on December 13 under Releases | Be the First to Comment | 8 views

Some time ago, Andre (aka alefort) wrote me, asking if I wanted to write a few reviews of different tracks. This was an offer which I simply couldn’t turn down. So let’s get started! The track is called “Moments Magiques” created by Gabriel Batz and Nick Pilon . Gabriel has been a known name for a few years now. He has released several singles, remixes, and last but not least, his own album “The Colour of Sound”. Nick Pilon got his big break in 2004 when he headlined the Tiesto after-party at Aria afterhours. Nick’s career started, and he is now a popular performer in the world of trance music. Actually I have not been a loyal listener to their music, but that changed the very moment I heard “Moments Magiques”.

Steve Lawler returns to the compilations arena with ‘Viva London’, a 2 x CD, musical insight to his monthly residency at The End, a night he’s justifiably proud of, “VIVA Harlem Nights has been running for nearly 6 years at The End in London and it was time lay down a permanent celebration of the night.” Drawing on the likes of David K, Gel Abril, Samim, Dubfire, Simon Baker, Bushwacka!, Martin Eyerer and, most importantly, two brand new, exclusive cuts of his own, Steve’s created an album that will undoubtedly stand the test of time – what better way to pay tribute to the night itself?

Read on for an in depth view into what I thought of the 2 CD mixed compilation and why it HAS to be on your wishlist these holidays!
