Lenny Kravitz – Just Be A Woman (Arctic Quest Bootleg)

When people think Lenny Kravitz, people think “ex-sex icon of Rock & Roll”, “controversial artist”, and out-of-this-world dresser”. But when Arctic Quest thought of Lenny Kravitz, he obviously thought of a worthy sampling item for production. Kudos to this Dutch producer for deciding to get one of Lenny’s most outstanding tracks from his 1991 sophomore album “Are You Gonna Go My Way” called “Just Be A Woman” and adding his own touch to this great bootleg.

This track came out real solid, with a nice dark, bassline stab melody that AQ is famous for. His sound can be heard in previous productions, including his single on Armind, “Black Smoke”. I get reminded of JPL for the simple melody in the background, and the soothing pads used throughout the verse, yet different enough to sustain his signature sound. Lenny’s verse which is intricately placed throughout the song , and the accompanying percussion gives the song the “head nodding” factor. The breakdown is the where the track shines the most, adding a light reverb to Lenny’s voice and of course, the great acoustic guitars adding the the full volume to the track. A bit after after, the song drops once more, following the same structure of the first verse with the introduction of a new synth or two, followed by a nice instrumental bridge, and ending off with the rolling bassline once more that goes all the way to the end. This is a nice track to begin a set with, and it is one that will see the light of the day in my sets and my radio show as well.

I’m not sure if this bootleg will ever see release (maybe a white label?) , but if it were, I’m 100% sure that many top notch DJs would grab this and drop it in their sets.
